Politics

I am a New York City public school teacher. I am a heterosexual female. I am a Catholic who does not judge others “by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character” (MLK Jr.). I am not a Democrat. I am not a Republican. I did not vote for Hillary Clinton. I did vote for Donald Trump. It seems that these are the most important things that one should know about me, because THESE are the things that DEFINE me, right? Wrong. Throughout the election process, I watched as my friends vigorously posted statuses on Facebook and memes on Instagram, slashing both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Throughout the election, I refrained from posting anything political, no matter how badly I wanted to respond or comment. After Trump took the position of...

Welcome to DC, Mr. Trump. These must be heady days for you and your team. Congratulations on winning a hard fought campaign. You were in Washington a couple of days ago. Just two quick questions: Exactly how bad was the stench? Have you found the drain plug yet? Hint: It’s doubtful that it will be anywhere near VP-Elect Mike Pence and certainly not found in the embodiment of RNC Chairman Priebus (aka Chief of Staff) or in the halls of a Congress ruled by Speaker Ryan and Leader McConnell. On Jan 20, 2017 with the stroke of your pen, you can undo much of the extra-constitutional executive overreach and regulatory damage of the last eight years. Bring lots of ink. Be absolutely brutal. You have promised to dismantle the Obama legacy of big government elitism, regulation and...

For those of you who’ve never heard his name, Saul Alinsky was a highly skilled community organizer and political activist who found notoriety through his work improving the conditions of poor communities across the United States during the 1950’s and 60’s. His methodologies gained enormous results and were adapted by many college students and “counter-culture” organizers during the social and political unrest of the 1960’s. His tactics were so new and radical that in 1966, conservative author William F. Buckley Jr. said that Alinsky was “very close to being an organizational genius.” And in 1970, Time magazine wrote that “it is not too much to argue that American democracy is being altered by Alinsky.” He eventually published his book “Rules for Radicals” in 1971, which has since...

Ever since our president elect was announced last Tuesday I have mostly kept my opinions to myself in the wake of all the craziness surrounding the election. I have always believed that one should carefully think about the words that come out of their mouth before they escape and cannot be unsaid. Had I spoken any sooner on this issue what would have likely followed would be a clustered regurgitation of vulgarities and hate filled anger. The real issue with such an outburst is that I would then be speaking in the same fashion as our president elect, the same way that I have criticized him for speaking on many occasions during his time on the campaign trail. It was crucial for me to take this last week and carefully consider exactly how I feel and how I wanted to present those thoughts...

11/15/2016 To Whom It Concerns, Today, after reading a Facebook post from a fellow Coe College Kohawk I felt triggered. In fact, at the time of writing this I can barely keep my focus due to my emotions over this issue. I have felt unsafe and targeted for the first time ever during my collegiate career. This was not due to unwanted sexual advances or hate speech, in fact it was due to the actions Coe College took in order to silence a fellow Kohawk's personal views and beliefs. Representatives of the College ordered a political sign to be taken down that was hanging on a dormitory door. It has come to my attention that some individual has stolen the sign, this is completely unacceptable and accountability is necessary. Now, I understand how the college views political beliefs as...

Dear Robert Kraft, I want to start off by saying that I have been a fan of the New England Patriots for as long as I can remember. I grew up spending Sunday afternoons (and sometimes Monday nights and Thursday nights) watching football with my dad- the Patriots are a tradition like any other in my household. I defend the franchise at any opportunity. I think Deflategate was an absolute travesty; I proudly wear my Patriots’ gear through all seasons after every win and after every loss through the streets of New York where I now live. I would follow Tom Brady barefoot into a blizzard, I genuinely enjoy the look of a cutoff hoodie, and I didn’t think it was a bad call to defer in overtime against the Jets last December in New Jersey- because Bill made the call and in Bill we trust (...

I don't know you personally, but I'm sure you want to make the decisions for our country that will help us excel. I hope you are able to be the president that half of this country doesn't expect you to be. I know you've said things in the past about how you plan on making America great again, I just don't know if those methods will work. The problem that is concerning me now, is more of a personal matter. And what's really taking me by storm, is that this personal matter concerns you. I lost my virginity when I was raped by a friend in his car one night. I was put in a very vulnerable position that night and my man friend took advantage of it. I was no longer his friend, or every a person, I became an object. It was hard enough to deal with that initial situation, accepting what...

I was born into this world, Crying, kicking, screaming. I saw their faces, I was comforted, I was a baby too. My eyes grew more focused, Seeing, wondering, dreaming. I saw happy things, I saw sad things, I was a child too. I didn’t know what was happening, Fighting, clawing, grasping. I saw them coming for me, I was terrified. I was raped too. My mom looked out the window, Sighing, yearning, drinking. I saw her angels, I saw her demons. I am a son, too. I wish you could see the real me, Suffocating, grasping, begging. I see your pain, Please see mine. Am I not a human too?

Sir, We think that you are one of the educated politician of our country. So, we expect you to make a logical statement on any issue that you speak about. I know you oppose to currency ban because you think it will not bring back black money and it will only harden the life of common people for some day. But have you thought the other part of currency ban. If you have not then let me tell you. 1. It will nullify the fake currency. 2. It will stop funding to terrorist. Don't you think the above points are also an Important factors? I don't think you have thought about this points because you have not mentioned this in any of your video. Let me comment on the second point, harden the life of common people. Please understand this, every change is hard and sometime...

We’ve seen protesters marching in the streets in opposition to Trump. We’ve seen pleas from some of our journalists and social media friends for the protests to stop. We’ve seen calls for unity from our political leaders. There’s no doubt that our country is deeply divided because of this election cycle. Some believe that the campaign promises of President Elect Trump will lift America out of the darkness. Some proclaim that his campaign promises are bigoted, sexist, and hateful. So, how do we find unity in the midst of these vastly disparate views? One thing that the majority of us can agree on is that we value our Bill of Rights, whether we are talking about Freedom of Speech, the Second Amendment, Privacy Protections, or Freedom of the Press. When President Obama...
