Politics

Dear Mani Shankar Aiyar You are the one leader who always believes in giving logical arguments backed with proper facts. You are an experienced leader and who knows better than you that it does not take even a fraction of time for rise and fall of a political party. The comeback of your own party after the emergency period and Janta Dal government or the recent defeat of BJP in Bihar elections are few examples of the fact that nothing is permanent in Indian Politics. But why this frustration sir? Why has the Lok Sabha defeat affected your party to such an extent that you didn’t think twice before humiliating our country at the world stage? How dare you say that the PM of the country should be removed if we want to improve our relations with Pakistan? Is he my Prime Minister or...

Dear Deluded Entertainment Seekers, Last week, your outspoken hero came to the DCU Center and dazzled with rambling, meaningless rhetoric that was short on substance but long on chest-pounding bombast. I looked around, puzzled, and saw happy faces flushed with excitement and fervor. Trump made you laugh and, more baffling, made you proud to be an American. "USA!" you chanted, again and again. It's time to stop the show, guys. Time to wake up and see what's happening. I'm going to share a secret. For some time now, in private conversations, I've argued that the inexplicable rise of Trump parallels Hitler's ascent in Nazi Germany. Like Hitler, Trump is adept at whipping audiences into a nationalistic frenzy, much of it angry and defensive. Like Hitler, Trump espouses the idea that a...

Dear Governor Snyder, The American response to the Syrian refugee crisis resembles the Jews who sought refuge in our country just before World War II. The overwhelming majority of our nation opposed their immigration. Our fear and hesitation confined European Jews and unknowingly binded them to their Nazi-coordinated deaths. As history tells, our current isolationist views will result in unnecessary grievances. Americans, like most of our allies, fear the possibility of terrorists masked as asylum seekers. This thought and the memory of 9/11 preoccupies the American mind. Today, I read your cautious position on refugee immigration for our state printed in Times Magazine. I appreciate your guardianship but I differ with your hesitant actions. A governor indeed has the legal...

With all due respect Mr. Cruz, I am ashamed at your response to the refugee crisis and I resent that you purport to represent the Texan people. Nearly half of us are democrats who deeply disagree with your approach. Instead of working toward real solutions, you are focusing on how to pander to the ignorant and fearful. To post things on your site that say things like "Democrats Block Sen. Cruz’s Efforts to Protect Americans from Terrorism" is completely misleading and serves only to exacerbate tension and divide us as an American people. Do you not feel lucky to be an American? Are you not grateful that both of your non-American parents were allowed to make a life here? You seem to have forgotten who you are. You also seem to have forgotten a key element in the founding of our...

Dear Paul Ryan, Shame on you. Shame on your Party for succumbing to the absolute worst in human nature. Shame on you for wanting to legislate turning our back on people who are fleeing for their lives. Shame on you for fomenting fear and hatred. Shame on you for accusing our president of politicizing the refugee crisis. What has he said? He said he will veto the bill Republicans have cooked up to stop us from accepting a mere handful of Syrian refugees. Because he is abiding by our constitution, President Obama is politicizing this crisis? Is that what you’re saying? His statement “this is not who we are” is politicizing this crisis? This is “remarkably unpresidential?” I’ll tell you who is politicizing it. You, and the people in that sorry excuse for an American political party...

Thank you to my fellow Canadian citizens for not blaming me for terrorism. I'm sorry that terrorists have hijacked my religion. Thank you to those who are not deterred by hate mongering. I'm sorry that there are so many wrong "facts" emerging re: Islam. Thank you for thinking critically and for yourselves. I'm sorry some people are trying so hard to divide us. Thank you for not making me feel less Canadian than you. I'm sorry that I even felt compelled to write this letter. Thank you for reading!

I usually don't pay attention to what comes out of Hollywood, but I recently read snippets of an interview that you gave where you stated that you would never vote for a Republican. While I'm sure there are benefits to speaking against Republicans (given Hollywood’s obvious bias!) I think you may have missed the point (or been misinformed). The primary vision of the Republican party is for the states (DISTRICTS) to have their own say about how they govern themselves, leaving the central government as a mediator and public face to the world. Every state, while being united in the whole, has a distinct character that is divined by the people that choose to live there. Many times when you hear that the GOP is against some issues, it is often because they think it should instead be...

Dear Councillor Di Giorgio, Hope you are having a nice day. It was recently brought to my attention that the wonderful Essencia mural, along the Lawrence West underpass, is at risk of, in part, being censored because it is too “scary” for some. This is hardly any reason at all to do so. Aside from being an astonishing artwork, beautifying the neighborhood and of course the city as a whole, we cannot allow the sensibilities of a few determine its fate or character. From the countless people with whom I’ve discussed the mural, many residents of Ward 12, I have only heard praises for how it is bringing life and vitality to the wall, as well as individually inspiring them. All of us light up when we talk about the mural, nothing short of the most spectacular public art I...

Di pa ba kayo nadadala sa nakaraang eleksyon that the best bet for the Vice Presidentiables was defeated ng isang nognog, pandak, laki sa hirap at alleged corrupt na kandidato. I’m a believer of Former Sec. Mar but your campaign strategy is a crap. I’m hoping that by this time you’ve learned your lesson and able to create a strategy that will revive his connection with the masses. Where’s the Mr. Palengke magic that made him the No. 1 Senator elected on 2004 election. Di nyo ba napapansin how other candidate connect with the masses on their advertisements? They build their candidate characteristics not their accomplishments nor their vision for the Philippines. Your strategy is very traditional at yaong tinatawag nilang “thinking voters” ang nakakaintindi. Please do your surveys...

Dear Prime Minister Trudeau, I just want to say that I admire the positions you have taken so far in dealing with Daesh (ISIS). It is important to aid those who need it. We need to show more support, not less, and I need not explain why as you clearly understand this. These attacks across the world (Beirut, Paris, and Baghdad) were meant to scare us. They certainly succeeded in doing so; violence and innocent deaths are frightening to all of us. But more than the actual bombings, what has truly terrified me is the reaction from many who are quick to place the blame for these horrific events on Muslims, and more specifically, refugees. The way I see it, these people are just playing right into Daesh’s hand. Daesh did not, in my opinion, orchestrate these attacks just for the sake of...
