Honestly just doing this for a class assignment, none the less I'll be going over "The Hobbit" by J. R. R. Tolkien. Am going to be going over the book to show that people may appear to be one thing (in this case a half sized hobbit that seems to worthless in the dwarf’s eyes while farther in the book he turns out to be the biggest help. In the beginning while Bilbo(The Hobbit) was relaxing at his house a group of dwarves appeared one by one after talking to Gandalf the day previously. After a total of twelve dwarves arrive Gandalf come in and asks Bilbo to go on an adventure in which he plays "The burglar". Bilbo had never been on an adventure much less be a burglar. The dwarves guessing that fact questioned him being fit for the roll, "He looks more like a grocer than a burglar!". (pg.18...

To anyone who has experienced such relationship previously or currently with a pet. There are thousands of people throughout the whole world that own pets and research shows how those people benefit from their dog or cat, horse, fish, etc. both physically, emotionally and mentally. Such as people with anxiety tend to have a dog around them to ease their stress, heart rate and blood pressure levels allowing them to not break out into an attack as often. Also elderly people who have a pet tend to have better physical health, it prevents strokes from happening, better attitude, less doctors’ visits, physically fit, etc. For the past 6 weeks in my Honors Composition class, I was forced to read the book Life of Pi which in fact is very boring throughout the first 80 pages but once you get...

In my high school British Literature class there came a time in the year that we all had to read a classic. One of the options was Pride and Prejudice. I wasn’t too terribly thrilled to read it, but so many others had, and people like it… for some reason. The book is about a young woman named Elizabeth Bennet. She lives in old-timey England where they wear big hoop skirts and tight corsets. Elizabeth is a very intelligent woman who can see that societies standards are outdated. The first thing that caught my attention was actually the very first paragraph of the book. “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife. However little known the feelings or views of such a man may be on his first entering a neighbourhood...

I want this letter to stop racism. I want this letter to open people’s eyes about racism. Last I want this letter to clear up the things people say about racism that isn’t true such as blaming the black for a lot of actions that aren’t their fault. In my American lit class, I was assigned to the book I know why the caged bird sings by Maya Angelou about racism. To summarize this Maya Angelou was three year old little black girl and her brother was a four-year-old black boy, they were sent from their father in California to their paternal grandmother in Stamps, Arkansas. Their grandmother runs a store there, which is the center of life in the Negro community of the town. First racist act The major events that happened in this book that lead me to my topic of racism first was in...

The past couple of months in English class we have been assigned to read a classic, I read the book Jane Eyre. This book is a shocking story about a young, orphaned girl who grows up living with her aunt and cousins, the Reeds. Jane gets tormented and abused and soon sent to a boarding school. This school provided her a better environment and this is where Jane met one of her best friend, who sadly dies. Jane then gets employed by a man named, Rochester who also treats her absolutely terrible. In the end of the book, Jane is happy and is living life to the fullest of her abilities. There are many situations with in the book that led me to believe that Jane was being abused. In the beginning of chapter one of the book, you can immediately catch on that Jane is living in the wrong...

In my American Lit class, I read the book The Scarlet Letter, which is about a woman named Hester Prynne who is prosecuted for having a child out of wedlock and branded with a scarlet “A”, the story deals with prejudice and guilt of not only Hester but also the father. The story also shows that through all the pain and seclusion Hester became stronger and because of that people began to believe that the letter stood for “Able” instead of “Adulterer” which is pretty cool. This story deals with the issue of the “double standard” and sexism. Throughout this book Hester is constantly shamed for having a child and not being married. The townspeople are quick to put her in jail and even shun her out of town (chp. 5), while the father is free to continue his life. Reading about this has made...

Dear Mistake Makers, I was assigned to read The Scarlett Letter in my American Lit class. I’m not gonna lie to you it’s a pretty tough read, with Hawthorne’s old English dialect and extensive vocabulary it was pretty hard to get through. He can spend nearly two pages describing what a bug on the wall of some supporting characters house’s wall; the amount of detail he gives is pretty crazy sometimes. But for those of you that don’t have a month of your life to spend reading this book the idea is this: The story is about Hester Prynne, a girl who is married but has an affair with another man. She refuses to reveal the identity of the man keeping the secret between her and her lover. The story follows Hester and her daughter, Pearl, living with the consequences of Hester’s actions and...

I knew this book by American literature class. My teacher said this book shows well about American issues. At first it was difficult to read English book. All the words are different what we use in common. But once I adjust in the book, it is getting easy. This book shows many issues that America has. In the book the biggest issue is racism. In the background of the book they have racism that white people are better than black people. They show readers many examples of racism. But I chose gender discrimination instead of racism. There is a girl name, Scout. She has older brother Jem and her friend Dill. She’s playing with them very often. So she is very active and sometimes she fought with boy. And Scout doesn’t have mother. Her father and people think she acting like a boy because she...

To anyone who has felt guilt. We have all felt guilt at one point or another. It’s something basic, most of us learn it as children, for doing something wrong and our parents making us apologize. We all know how that felt, it was embarrassing, and you felt bad. That’s kind of what guilt is, doing something wrong, and feeling bad about it, or regretting it. The whole purpose of this letter came from a book I read, called The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. (**Warning: Spoiler Alert**) This book has some heavy topics that have a lot to do with guilt. It is about two best friends, Amir and Hassan. Both from two different social classes, Amir is like an average citizen, while Hassan is like a servant. The two grow up together and become best friends regardless. But in the book we find...

So I had to read this book The Scarlet Letter for my honors comp and lit class. I didn’t really care for this book at first it was super boring not very entertaining. It’s a romance book I’m not really into that kind of stuff I like action like people fight and stuff like. But as I was reading this book I started to realize that there is a bigger problem than I noticed. The big thing I took from this book was that there was this double standard going on with this woman named Hester Prynne and her husband. So she had a kid with a man that wasn’t her husband and back in the day that was a very bad sin and you could be killed for it. But instead of killing her she had to wear a red A on her chest and she had to stand in this spot in town for hours so people could see what she had done. They...
