I want this letter to stop racism. I want this letter to open people’s eyes about racism. Last I want this letter to clear up the things people say about racism that isn’t true such as blaming the black for a lot of actions that aren’t their fault. In my American lit class, I was assigned to the book I know why the caged bird sings by Maya Angelou about racism. To summarize this Maya Angelou was three year old little black girl and her brother was a four-year-old black boy, they were sent from their father in California to their paternal grandmother in Stamps, Arkansas. Their grandmother runs a store there, which is the center of life in the Negro community of the town.
First racist act
The major events that happened in this book that lead me to my topic of racism first was in chapter 3 Mr. Steward, the white former sheriff, comes to warn Momma that the whites are on the warpath because they say a black man has “messed with” a white woman. This racist act I can’t connect to because back then it was frowned upon for whites and blacks to be together, but in today’s society it is not as much frowned upon as it was back in the time of the book but just because we don’t frown upon blacks and white being together lots still frown on blacks but are blamed and accused for a lot more than what action they have actually made.
The next racist act
The next racist act that was made from momma’s side was in chapter 7 Momma stated that she does not believe it is safe for black people to speak to whites and certainly not with insolence. She does not speak too harshly of whites even in their absence unless she generically refers to whites as “they this was the one act that stood out that shows that momma is scared for her children to be around whites so she is living in fear and I don’t think anyone should be living in fear and it is sad that she is scared of another color this part of the book I’m going to connect to Donald trump banding the 7 refugees from the country because he is scared that they are going to do a terrorist act to the us but nothing was done to help momma from being scared from the whites but Donald trump made a racist decision basically saying that terrorist only come from the refugees of those 7 countries.
The final racist act
The last major event that stood out to me in my novel on racism was in chapter 24 Maya develops an excruciating toothache. The nearest black dentist practices twenty-five miles away, so Momma takes Maya to see Dr. Lincoln, a white dentist in town. During the Great Depression, Momma loaned money to many people, including Dr. Lincoln. Now she believes he owes her a favor. When they arrive, Dr. Lincoln states that he does not treat black patients, this action in the book was the one that stood out to me most because when momma was sharing her money she could have told Dr. Lincoln that she doesn’t help white people but she didn’t instead she saw someone in need and didn’t look and see his color she looked and saw that someone was in need.

My personal connection to my issue racism is today trump is president and he is racist to a lot of people one event that took place was when trump became president there were lots of riots and protests around the U.S. The stuff that went on when trump was being elected made me think of my book and all the racist acts that were happening to Maya her when Donald trump became president a lot more racism started to occur more and that made me really open my eyes on racism again that racism still exist today it was still existing while people were ignoring it like it didn’t occur like when the cop shot a black guy who was innocent Officer Charged for Killing Innocent Unarmed Father With His Hands Up on Video

The purpose of this letter is to inform people that racism still exists to this day. I want racism to be stopped today because I have friends that are mixed black all different races and I don’t want to have to worry about them being separated if racism gets bad again I don’t want to have to worry about them being scared of whites or cops I want racism stopped so everyone can feel safe and accepted.
