Business

I worked myself to death every day I was scheduled to work for my old boss. I came in when people pulled “no call, no shows”, I came in when people didn’t show up even on days I had requested for very personal reasons, I came in when I happened to be passing the store and realized no one had opened that day, just to name a few incidents over the three years I was employed there. My boss hired people who never lasted more than a month or two, people who stole both merchandise and cash from the register, people who humiliated and cajoled fellow employees, people with no work ethic. I picked up the slack when work didn’t get done. I was eventually lucky enough that she hired three other employees that actually knew what a job entailed(work, wow, can you believe it?). Those three women...

To Our New CEO, As I am on my lunch break and can hear the voices of several influential and important members of the Corporate administration on a company-wide conference call in just the other room, I decided to start reading the press releases from the last few months. I saw that, while the fourth quarter of 2015 was less than anticipated, the net worth of the company increased and the value of our stock rose over the course of the year. We are projected to open up to 12 new stores in 2016, and are feeling a push to modify our merchandising techniques. All of this is well and good, and hopefully you will bring fresh ideas to the company. That being said, I only have one concern: why, despite our steady growth, have we not seen a raise in wages? There is not a single place in the...

To: Mark Zuckerberg From: Bill Hippard, Executive Director, Metal Roofing Alliance Date: March 27, 2016 Re: Metal Roofs Aren’t Just for Panic Houses Dear Mr. Zuckerberg, Your Palo Alto home plans have created headlines this week. Kudos to you for wanting to protect your family - that’s an instinct we all share. Based on the plans we’ve seen referenced, at least one of the new homes will be built to last. And not just because of the reported brick walls and steel doors. It’s the standing seam metal roof that will provide decades of protection for your so-called “panic house.” Resistant to cracking, shrinking and eroding, attractive metal roofs can work with any type of architecture, and withstand extreme weather conditions throughout their long, long life. Clearly,...

May 13, 2016 By email [email protected] Dear Mr. McAdam: We are a Verizon/CWA family. My husband has worked for Verizon for 20 years with no bad marks and has always made the productivity numbers. We have been proud to be part of a successful company and to be able to live the American dream. However, our version of the American dream is most likely a little different than yours. We just want to be a family and make ends meet. We have a son who has sensory issues, dyslexia and High Functioning Autism. We live on one income and thankfully, we have been able to stay on one income, because of mandatory overtime. However, you have forced overtime every week for a year and are now forcing untrained managers to do the same. Although overtime is great pay,...

Shame on you World Vision. In this age of Donald Trump proselytizing through a never-ending stream of racist and hateful speech, my ability to maintain a functional tolerance of discrimination has waned to an all-time low. Serving as an elected official in Washington, D.C., and as a leader in the once defining civil rights organization, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, I patiently advocated and endured through the period of transformation that was necessary to allow America to convert from a Jim Crow directed regime to a more accepting society of covert racism. Trump’s enduring presence however, and emerging revelations concerning the pervasive practice of discrimination within the nation’s largest children’s humanitarian organization, World Vision, affirms the solemn...

I met them in person and they told me they had some ongoing problems with their previous web design company they hadn't done a very good job and how they wanted me to setup a new website for them, the manager of Suffolk Estate TMO signed the contract, I designed the website for them everything was...

Dear Mr Fahour, I am using an Open Letter as you do appear to be very elusive and difficult to contact; mildly surprising as most CEO's employ folk to receive communications from people, filter out the noise and pass on the important stuff. I am writing because it seems obvious that you are not wholly aware of what is happening at the coalface of Australia Post. It is not working. Here's Two examples. One. I received an email saying I would be receiving a parcel today. In that email was a button the purported to allow me to define a Safe Drop and to not need a signature. I clicked the button and logged in. However, I then got a 'An Unknown Error Occurred'. Oh Dear - especially as I've reported that error a couple of times now and know NO-ONE who it has worked for. Two...

Recruiter’s Everywhere, 1 Recruiter Street, Recruitersville, Recruiterland, R12 X567. Dear Recruiter, I’ve been working with Social Talent for just over 2 and a half years now. And although I started off not knowing anything about the recruitment industry, what recruiters did, or how it all worked/should work, I now know quite a lot about what sets a great recruiter apart from a no-so-great recruiter. Which is why I now feel now is the right time for me to sit down and compose this open letter to all those not-so-great recruiters out there. But while, I don’t mean to offend any of you with this letter (I ultimately want to help you be the best recruiter you can be), I will warn you that I do have a number of grievances I need to get off my chest! Here goes… Do you really care that I...
