At a time when 1 in every 5 kids in America go to bed hungry (1 in 7 kids have only two meals a day) and 33% of Americans are collecting food stamps and another 40 million must resort to using food banks, the NFL not only allows online gambling sites to advertise throughout their network, but even on the stadium jumbo-trons, and coupons passed out before, during, and after NFL games in the parking lots, at the gates, and even inside the stadiums.
LESS THAN 10% OF GAMBLER WHO TAKE THEIR BAIT ACTUALLY WIN ANYTHING. BY MONDAY MORNING 90% ARE WONDERING HOW THEY ARE GOING TO MAKE THEIR CAR, RENT, OR INSURANCE PAYMENTS! Those who do manage to win a few hundred dollars are quickly reminded by their spouses that they spent thousands betting to win those few hundred bucks. https://www.unlv.edu/news/release/new-study-shows-online-gambling-more-a...
Just as Congress has banned all smoking ads on TV, because they increased lung cancer rates, we should now do the same with online gambling site which earn more than $50 million per day knowing full well they will cause misery, divorces, and gambling addictions that will in turn also lead to alcohol and drug abuse.
All media outlets and the especially the NFL. NBA, NHL, and MLB should be banned from promoting Fan Duel, Draft Kings, and the others since they make zero effort to even confirm the ages of their
prey. Kids as young as 17 years old are already getting hooked. All the broadcast networks should also be banned as well.
Yes, America is a free country (relatively speaking of course) but we don't hand out revolvers and encourage people to play Russian Roulette for money! There is no difference with online gambling in my opinion. I now even wonder if the NFL Commissioner is receiving a slice of this very lucrative pie since he already showed his true colors allowing convicted rapists and domestic abusers to earn millions as an NFL player. Lest we forget the Budweiser fiasco?
Online sports betting is now a multi-billion dollar industry and I would even go so far as to ask Congress to compel and mandate them to donate 20% of their gross to FeedAmerica.org, the DAV.org, and Covenant House so Americans suffering the most can at least benefit from their greed and deceptions. (Yes their ads are also deceptive and the fine print disclaimers they make are not left on the screen long enough to read, or the fonts are too small to be even legible). https://www.legalsportsreport.com/sports-betting-states/revenue/
Professional sports franchises and leagues create role models for our youth and need to be held to the highest ethical standards, not leading citizens into despair and even suicides. What say you all?
