First of all, I just want to say that these thoughts that I am sharing are things that have been on my mind over the past year or so and is about no incident in particular.
I want to start out by saying that I totally agree that all lives matter. Yes, ALL lives matter. It does not matter what color your skin is. Your life matters. I am sorry to the families that have lost loved ones and I hope the violence in this world would stop. However, It’s really upsetting that society is turning against all police officers due to certain incidents.
I read a text post saying “I’ve had it with people saying ‘Not all police officers are bad’ when a black person is murdered. That’s the equivalent to saying, ‘Not all men are bad’ when a women is raped.”
A few things things: 1. I agree that when something tragic happens, we should send our condolences to the families, the victim, the person that lost their life, or the person that was attacked. That is a valid point. 2. When you stereotype the entire police force, that’s when people like me are going to step in and say not all police officers are bad. 3. I’m just a little confused by the example this text post used because it's going against their point in a way. When a man rapes a woman, everyone gets mad at that man. For example, Brock Turner. I am fairly certain, when the news came out about Brock Turner, every woman did not turn against the men in their life. Correct me if I’m wrong. So why are people doing that to police officers?
It’s not fair to the police officers that are dedicated and go out every single day and risk their lives to protect YOU. My dad is a state trooper and lately I’ve found myself constantly thinking about him while he’s on duty. Is he going to come back home alive? I wonder if anyone is going to try to hurt him? What would I do if something happened to him? What if someone tries to hurt him because of recent events? It does not make ANY sense to me that people who are upset over something, kill other innocent people. Does that make you feel any better about the loss of your loved one? No? Ok so why are we doing that? Another thing, is people say how horrible police officers are for killing people, yet those people go out and KILL INNOCENT OFFICERS? Wait so now you’re just as bad as them? So why complain about how unfair it is? It doesn’t make sense to me.
Another thing that truly makes me angry is the people who try weigh in on the topic by making smart remarks that make me want to literally rip my hair out. I came across a tweet that stated, “Don’t get too tan this summer folks- cops will shoot ya without looking too closely to see if you’re white or not”. 1. You aren't funny. 2. I do not understand why society thinks police officers randomly stop their car, get out, shoot someone, then continue on with their day. I promise you, it does not work that way. What was the person doing to make the officer use force? Were they not following orders? Were they resisting the officer? They don’t shoot people and use force for the fun of it.
It’s very hurtful to see these comments when it is indirectly towards your father and his coworkers. So let’s say your mom or dad is a doctor and there’s a big story about how a doctor is charged for malpractice and then everyone you know turns against doctors and talks about how much they suck 24/7, even though you know your parent is a good doctor and has never done anything but save people. It would hurt, wouldn’t it? But people don’t think that far ahead. People care about following along with whatever is trending and coming up with a good tweet. But I don’t. I always seem to have the unpopular opinion and I’m always bashed for it.

One day, an Indiana State Trooper, David Rich, saw a car that looked stranded on the side of U.S. 24, so he stopped to help. The person driving the car, stopped the car on the shoulder to urinate in the trees beside the road. When the person saw Trooper Rich, he shot and killed him. The car was stolen and the person thought Officer Rich was coming to arrest him. David Rich had no idea that it was stolen. He was simply doing his job, and wanted to help. Officer Rich had a 7 year old daughter and twin sons that were 4 years old. But society doesn’t give a crap about that. Most of you have probably never heard that story in your life. But you’re the first to post about how wrong police officers are.
They risk their lives for you. I don’t know if my dad will come home from work tomorrow, or the next day, but I do know that he puts his own life at risk to protect the sad, sad, sad, world we live in today.
