To People Who Hate Marijuana

One of the big reasons you guys don’t want marijuana to be legalized is because ‘it’s dangerous’. You that are against it say that it is harmful and damaging. You say it screws with perception and coordination when in reality when you’re high, you’re actually more aware of things. People who drive drunk get in accidents. People who drive high on marijuana don’t because they are aware of their impairment and compensate for it accordingly, like by slowing down and focusing their attention when they know a response will be required. Potheads are not reckless people. Drunkards are. And because the War on Drugs exists and weed is illegal and alcohol isn’t, you just assume that it’s worse.
As far as it being dangerous, that’s just not true. One of the only arguments I could see you having as to why weed would be dangerous would be impaired driving which I just proved is bullshit. Maybe another one would be health risks. That is a slightly truer argument. I could honestly say the effects of THC on health aren’t only positive and some effects like memory loss totally suck. But that’s that. It sucks. It’s not life-threatening. Another popular argument I’m familiar with is lung damage. My response to that is simply that cigarettes are legal and they cause more damage than smoking weed does. There are tons of chemicals in cigarettes and weed is natural. Period. Also, there have been some studies that show a possibility of increase in lung capacity. The reasoning behind this is because when you smoke, you breathe in deeply and hold it in your lungs for as long as you can. I guess it’s a possibility. I leave it up to you guys to decide that one.
However, there are plenty of studies that show it drastically improves epilepsy, appetites, anxieties, depression, and tons of other things. There’s sort of a reason that almost half the country has legalized it in some way or another. If it really was too dangerous or harmful there would be no way that the government would be passing medical marijuana laws so frequently. I promise you, it’s not dangerous.
“Heavy abusers of marijuana were found to suffer damage to social life, work or career status and cognitive ability. Schoolwork and the achievement of goals were also found to suffer.” When I read this statement I can’t help but LOL. You want to know when my social life peaked? When I started smoking weed. You want to know when my anxiety was almost nonexistent and I was most comfortable serving tables and made the most tips when I was a waitress? When I was STONED. You want to know what my GPA was the semester before I started smoking responsibly compared to my GPA the semester after? I went from a 3.0 to about a 3.8, and I made the Dean’s List. You want to know how I get the motivation to clean my house and clean it to my mother’s standards, who cleans for a living? I smoke! Before I started messing with THC, I was miserable. Now, I honestly am THE happiest I have ever been and I’ve become so much less hateful. So tell me again how marijuana damages social life, work, schoolwork, and achievement of goals.
You want to know what happens when a person takes a hit of marijuana? They light this ground up green plant on fire for a second, inhale, hold, and exhale. After a little while, they feel a little like their heads are in the clouds. They feel happy, maybe even giggly. If they had any pains like nausea or a headache or body aches, chances are extremely high they are now pain-free. They might get ‘the munchies’, and listen to music and just chill until they start coming down after a couple hours and then they sleep. As long as they were in a comfortable setting, it was probably a really wonderful time. And I guarantee that they didn’t do anything dangerous or harmful.
People leading the War on Drugs have got it all wrong. ‘Potheads’, ‘stoners’, ‘junkies’, or however you like to label those awful people who indulge in the plant are really just happy, hungry, sleepy people. What’s so dangerous about that?
