I love seeing you grow right in front of my eyes.
"YOU, to me, are one great SURPRISE." I didn't know surprises could come in human forms too. I did not expect you nor ask for you to be part of my life but then you came in that uniform saying "Hi, I am...", which basically marked the beginning of our friendship. Who would expect that having such kind of people would greatly change one's life? Yes, you are one of the greatest surprises I had ever encountered and right now, I can't even think how my life would be without you in it.
"I'm glad I met YOU who miraculously possess the same level of craziness flowing in your DNA like I do in mine." If not for you, I wouldn't realize how funny I actually am. I wouldn't realize how good of a joker I can be. All the inside jokes we made about people, things, moments and even about each other would never lose its fun energy. Remember when the mood was supposed to be serious but then you cracked a joke and we burst ourselves from laughter, looking like clapping seals? It was that craziness in our DNAs that worked.
"If not for YOU, I'd probably drown myself from my own tears." You were that rainbow people say would come after every rain. No actually, you were that rainbow that appears even when it's raining. There were times in high school when hearts were broken, scores were slowly losing life and life itself was wanting to give up. But then you came even before I thought of doing so. You were that "one-text-away" person and your eardrums were already programmed to listen to every cry, complain, and problem.
You taught me that sometimes things don't go our way but it's okay when you have friends to fight by your side.
"Because of YOU, every photograph feels alive." Selfies are good but groupies with you in it are better. I don't care if the photographer has to move backwards to fit us all. I don't care if we fill the memory card with our faces or even cause the battery to be empty. I'd be happier if my photographic memory would produce photos but it doesn't unfortunately. What I care most is that when a day comes we forget each other, our photos would remind us of how we used to be.
When the day comes you decide to change course, our photos would remind us of how we were back then.
"I am proud of YOU, be it privately or publicly." Of who you were when we met, of who were when we became friends, of who you are now that you're working on your dreams and of who you'll become when you'll reach them - I am proud of YOU. I love seeing you go on dinners, wear suits and dresses, grow gracefully. Never mistaken my silence for forgetting because not once in my life had I forget a bunch of people who made life greater. Even when we had a fair public displays of our abnormalities, I am still proud of you. Even when you think you're failure, I am proud of you. Even when no one's left to remind you of how amazing you are, I am still proud of you.
"I love seeing you grow, meet new people and make new memories." Of course I get sad seeing you without me but I love it when you explore the world around you, touch lives, make people happy, create new memories. I love seeing you doing that because I myself knew the feeling of when you did those things for me. And it was beautiful. It's okay for me when the time comes you decide to leave our friendship and find a new one because I know you need to grow too. And sometimes, it would mean you growing without me.
"I love you." Probably this won't bring you too much of a surprise. Maybe because you've heard this a couple of times already. But hear it from me. I love you. Even when the seasons drift fast, even when we don't look like who we are years later, even when you get caught up with schedules, even when we don't talk too often and even when you don't remember my name anymore, I love you. You know how the heart remembers even when the mind forgets? It's because the heart is already filled with a bunch of beautiful people like you.
To the friends we made and still kept from high school, the love I have for you is something that I didn't expect. To me, you are the beautiful kind of growth I'd love to see my entire life.
To my high school friends, I wish you well is one of saying how much I love you.
