Some of the smartest and most genuine people to come out of this process are speaking to us and we're not listening. Bernie himself, is speaking to us, and we're not listening. They're asking us to be smart.
Like most everyone involved with the Bernie campaign, I too feel ignored, I feel silenced, and most of all, I feel angry. The events of the past week have forced me to internalize these feelings and really evaluate what the best steps are for our revolution to continue.
The truth of the matter is —we lost. Bernie Sanders will not be the next president of the United States of America, and nothing pains me more.
Bernie or Bust is getting smaller and less relevant each day, we're fading out into obscurity because people are refusing to admit that we lost, yes, it wasn't fair, but we lost.
Many people have turned their backs on Bernie for supporting Hillary Clinton and some have even decided to jump ship over to the green party with Jill Stein, who is channeling our anger into a bona-fide waste of time. We need to be smart. We need to realize the limitations that this system has in place. Third parties do not have a foothold in our current political system, and frankly, 3 months is not enough time to generate the amount of support that one will need to win a general election.
As an aside, I am all for Jill Stein's call for "alternative vote" to replace our current "first past the post" system, but that is a battle that will not take place anytime soon, certainly not in time for it to affect the 2016 race.
I digress.
We should be focusing on building a third party movement for the 2020 election, that is a much more attainable goal. The democratic establishment took a serious beating, they may never admit it, but they're shaken up and barely managed to silence us —this time around.
We must take this time to regroup, to lick our wounds, to mobilize. Let's not get bitter, let's not get sour, let's get Smart.
Im voting Hillary Clinton.
I'm not voting for her because I like her, and certainly not because I support her; hell, I still have no idea if my body will even be physically capable of casting that ballot come November, but it is the smart choice. The very father of our revolution is telling us that this is, in fact, the right choice, the smart choice.
Yes, even a shoe box would be a better choice than Donald Trump and he is quite literally the only reason why I would ever choose to vote for Hillary Clinton. But we have to suck it up, take this hit, and live to fight another day.
If you ever hit the pavement for Bernie, if you ever felt that ringing pain in your ears after hours of phone banking, if you ever lost friends from how vigorously you pushed for Bernie sanders, this will most likely anger you. But once that anger subsides, please listen, please understand where this call to action is coming from. I lived and breathed the political revolution, and I've come to the difficult conclusion —that in order for our revolution to survive; we must never allow Donald Trump to become president.
Let's pressure Clinton into fighting for us, let's bring the Democratic establishment to task and spend the next 4 years pushing for the reforms that will be necessary for us to win in 2020, this includes holding them accountable for the rampant voter fraud we witnessed in state after state.
I made so many friends through this entire process, people I never thought existed, people that will be with me for the rest of my life. Every single one of you is special because all of you believed in the political revolution, even when it was hard
Well, it's harder now more than ever. Let's not turn our backs on Bernie.
Let's be smart.
