Open Letter to the people of India
I am writing this letter very humbly to people of India. I am a Kashmiri who is appealing you to convey to your government to stop using violence against Kashmiri people. India is a great civilization with a remarkable history. It is the land of Ram. Ram means peace, brotherhood, magnanimity, sacrifice and immense love. It is the land of Gandhi who preached and practiced non violence. He stood up for the oppressed. He was selfless. It is the land of Buddha where ahimsa, tolerance and love emerged. It is the land of Ashoka and Chandragupta Maurya. Rulers who shed lot of blood but later on they became voices of peace, love and brotherhood.Ordinary citizens of India are great people. India the land of sadhus, sufis and saints should only represent love. India should not be identified with violence against people who are asking to be freed. It should not have to debate on their news channels what kind of weapon they should use against protesters??Should it be pellet guns or some other guns?? It should not normalize and justify violence against ordinary people.
I can not imagine how the people of this great nation can allow killing and maiming of young children, young men, young women, old men and old women. People in Kashmir want to be free like people in India and other free countries. Indian people are patriotic people. Indian patriotism should not be defined by suppressing freedom of Kashmiri people. Indian patriotism should not be drenched in blood of young kids. Indian patriotism should not symbolize burying young boys in graveyards who could have done great things in their lives. No one should die for wanting freedom. There is no national pride in mothers & fathers attending their kids funerals. India can not and should not represent this kind of brutality and carnage against Kashmiri people.
It pains me to see this senseless violence. I have so many Indian friends and I can say with full confidence none of them want to see this violence in their name. Last two months have been very difficult for me personally. I want all my Indian brothers and sisters to open their hearts for Kashmiri people. Acknowledging our pain would make you a greater nation. Understanding our urge for freedom will make u a stronger and greater nation. India has an opportunity to become the beacon of light for the world. India will show strength not weakness by resolving Kashmir conflict as per the wishes of Kashmiri people.
I know there is a difficult history between India and Pakistan. Partition does not bring good memories for either nation. There is a lot of mistrust between the establishments of the two countries. Unfortunately both nations enjoy each other's failures and misfortunes.I hope one day this will change. I can already see lot of people have started loving and stopped hating on both sides of the border. They don't make the news in either of the countries. Hate sells on media because it's good for ratings.
I urge people of India to not see Kashmir problem through Pakistani prism. We want you to see us as people who are in lot of pain. We want you to show us magnanimity and love like Bhagwan Ram. We want you to rekindle the Gandhi inside your hearts. We want you to cry with us in our pain. We want you to hold the hands of our mothers who have lost their sons. We want you to express love to the kids who have become orphans.
I as a Kashmiri have no bad intention for the nation of India. I am not even angry anymore because I know we all make mistakes because we are human beings. I know deep in my heart people of India can surprise the people of Kashmir with immense love. In our freedom you do not fail as a nation. In our freedom you become the greatest nation. I love you all. I hope you will open your hearts for me and all the Kashmiri people.
