To my son's Dad,
I remember one night in particular after we first met when I had told you that I didn't introduce my son to the man I was dating right away because he would get attached too easily. You didn't make a fuss about it, you let it develop slowly over time and when the time was right you met my son.
At two years old Cash met a man, a man he would later call Dad, you didn't push the bond you didn't force the connection between you two but you took the time, you made a commitment to a little boy who thinks you are a hero because you showed up to soccer practice, games, doctor appointments, school programs everything a father is, suppose to do you go above and beyond.
It doesn't matter that you two don't share the same blood he is in every way a copy of you. He wants to be just like you at every turn, hoping that everything he does makes you proud of him. He knows when he comes home from school you'll be there. He never has to worry about your dedication to him and for that reason we love you.
I know one day Cash will be the one saying these things to you but you are the bravest person we know, meeting a two-year-old little boy and his mom and deciding that a life with us was worth more to you than that of an average twenty-six-year-old. For deciding that nights in watching the same movie over and over again meant more to you than going out. I know to some it's just what a Dad does but you didn't have to make that choice you didn't have to love him like he was yours from the start but you did and I know you don't hear this enough but I am so grateful you picked him, you picked him to be your son when you could have passed. You took a chance and the time you give, the effort you make he will never forget.
I don't think I could ever thank you enough for the sacrifices you make day in and day out to make sure he gets to go to everything he can dream or that he has every toy he wants. It takes a special person to be able to love unconditionally and that is what you do every day. I know that you would give up your last breath if it meant he got to keep going. You would work any job to make sure he is taken care of and you would still come home and be his Dad. He looks up to you so much, he's so proud when we drive past Lowe's and he shouts "that's where MY Dad works, he's the best fixer in the world mom. Did you know that!?"
Please know that he pushes your buttons and he may drive you crazy but he does that because you are his dad, his protector the person he can go to no matter what and he loves you for that. Know that even though I may not say it enough I love you and I am so glad that you are his Dad.
So thank you, thank you for staying up all night when he's sick for spending quality time with him when I go out and all he wants is to stay home with his Dad. Thank you for making sure he knows that you will support him no matter what, for loving him and me. Thank you for being a GREAT Dad.
This day is for men like you.
Happy Father's Day
We Love You!
