Dear Competitor/Rally Car Owner/Rally Car Builder
You are probably aware by now that the subject of technical regulations was discussed at length at the October Rally Panel meeting. The outcome of that meeting was a consensus to make, in principle, Group 3 Club Rally Cars eligible for the WARC Outright and 2WD Championships but not Clubman. The future of 2WD Challenge has not yet been finalised.
However, it was also stated that implementation of any such radical change ought rightfully be subject to several pending matters; not the least the AIMSS Review, several other enquiries and high level discussions at an FIA and CAMS National level; all on the subject of rally safety.
AIMSS (Australian Institute for Motor Sport Safety) have been review Rally Safety for well over 12 months and their extensive report is due out very soon. We can expect there will be several recommendations to how rallying is run in Australia and this may include changes to Technical Regulations.
On this basis I remind anyone intending to build a Group 3 Club Rally Car that they do so, on the basis that the eligibility of Group 3 for the WARC is subject to several pending matters identified at the October meeting.
As is always the case, the finalisation of conditions for any WA rally year only becomes final and binding once the Conditions for Western Australia Rally Championships and Series (CWARCS), for that year, are ratified by CAMS. We are hopeful this will occur in December.
Yours sincerely,
Ross Tapper,
Chairman, WARAP.
