Dear Fellow Seekers of Knowledge,
Since I became a member of this forum, I have made various contributions to the forum from posting expository pieces to writing informative persuasive articles. I have noticed for some time now that many individuals, particularly in the Controversial News and Alternative Politics Section, have ignored the most basic and fundamental principles of scientific, factual based research. These so-called 'Conspiracy Theorists' present themselves as nothing more than raving lunatics, internet trolls, or religious fanatics.
We must ask ourselves, what is a conspiracy theory? According to the Encarta World English Dictionary of 2009, a conspiracy theory is a belief that a particular event is the result of a secret plot rather than chance. While that is the denotation of the word, the connotation of one who believes in conspiracy theories is much different. Many individuals roll their eyes or scoff at the notion of conspiracies. Why? Many conspiracy theorists would argue it is because they are ignorant and don't want to see the supposed truth. Or could it be something else? Could it be that when conspiracy theorists present their arguments, they often do so in a illogical, unscientific way?
I have noticed through observation that many pieces of evidence that many conspiracy theorists use are in fact, falsified, or at the very least, subject to their validity. Some conspiracy theorists will cite supposed evidence from blogs or overtly political and/or religious websites, all of which lack credibility because of biases that are often clearly displayed on said websites.
I make a plea to all individuals reading this to further their understanding of the universe in which we live in. Never stop questioning. Question those who question others. Question those who do not question others. Never stop searching for the truth, even if it means you must admit you are wrong.
Sincerely,
Guardian
