An open letter to the Australian Labor Party
I’m not sure how to say what needs to be said, but I am going to give my best shot at saying it.
I’ve been voting Labor all my voting life, and consider myself a true ‘lefty’ in fact I’ve been taunted for being such a staunch ‘lefty’ over the years, and even though I’ve been disillusioned, embarrassed and angry with the Labor Party for all the Rudd/Gillard saga, I have staunchly supported Labor anyway.
The reason I’m writing this letter is to ask the Australian Labor Party, do you really want to lead this country? Seriously, do you?
From where I sit at the moment, it looks as if you aren’t really serious about winning the next election or any election to be honest. With the current leader Bill Shorten leading you to the next election, I don’t think you have much of a chance. He is the bad taste that’s left from the Rudd/Gillard saga that shamed most Labor party supporters, he was there, he was involved and I don’t believe he was innocent of plotting the exit of both Gillard and Rudd. He has been accused of rape, and I know there was apparently no truth behind that accusation but word on the street is that he’s a rapist, and even my ‘lefty’ friends do not want to vote for him, most of them say “what if it turns out to be true?”
So if you really are serious about winning the next election or even competing for the leadership, then you will need to listen to the people and change leaders. I do not have faith in Labor being successful in the next election, because I believe that Bill Shorten is not the right person for the leader’s job.
The dilemma for lefties like me is that I feel there’s nobody and nothing to vote for in this country anymore, despair comes to mind when I think of turning up at the polling booth on Election Day. I can never vote Liberal, and can’t vote Labor either because the current leader, in my opinion is not worthy of leading this country, he is just not PM material, we all know it, and are wondering what Labor intends to do about it. Bill Shorten is the weak link in the Labor party right now, and if you know what’s good for Labor and this country, you will replace him asap.
I know you don’t want to keep changing leaders, we’ve been there done that with Rudd/Gillard, but the decent thing for Bill Shorten to do would be to resign his position and let someone else more effective lead us to the next election, if he resigned for ‘personal reasons’ then it wouldn’t look as bad as it would if someone just overthrows him.
Please consider what I’m trying to tell you, Labor has an ineffective leader who will be the downfall at the next election. I am not feeling much hope for labor or Australia with our current political options, so please, I ask you, give us something and someone to vote for.
From a staunch lefty!
