Dear Paul Pierce,

On behalf of Washington Wizards fans everywhere, I wanted to thank you for an incredible season. While making it to the second round is no small achievement, one can’t help but wonder how far the Wizards would have gone had John Wall’s injury never taken place.

The mind games alone vs. LeBron James in the conference finals would have been fantastic to witness. Yet here we are, the offseason, where you have a big decision to make. Sure, reuniting with Doc Rivers in L.A. sounds appealing, and a return to Boston would never be out of the question, but what you mean to D.C. cannot be understated.

From exhibiting leadership to classic postgame quotes, you’ve made your mark on D.C. and in the memories of Wizards fans forever. However, we don’t want to see it end this soon for a bevy of reasons.

But would you really go to L.A.?

After all, this is a team that just choked away a series against the Houston Rockets with a 3-1 lead.

And they play in the West. And who knows if Doc Rivers can perform the duties of a GM and a Head Coach.

And they’ll always be the lesser team in Los Angeles.

Anyways, the impact you’ve had on the young Wizards has been immeasurable. This season, we’ve seen Wall take the leap to superstardom, Beal display his toughness and promise in the playoffs, and the Wizards as a whole showcase a new sense of confidence.

You even called out Otto Porter just before the postseason, and it seemed to work wonders, as Porter became an integral part of the rotation. And that was just the regular season.

Upon entering the playoffs, most Wizards fans did not have high expectations for the postseason. Despite the Raptors freefall after a hot start, the Wizards took their own mid-season tumble down the standings, and the Raptors always seemed to have our number.

However “Paul Pierce at the 4” seemed to do the trick. Time and again, whenever the Wizards needed a big shot, you were there to provide it. There were feuds with DeMar DeRozan, Drake, and the Mayor of Toronto. And we loved every second of it.

And who can forget the “I CALLED GAME” quote during the Hawks series. This moment, and the subsequent post game interview, will be remembered in NBA history forever.

With the continued development of the Wizards’ young trio (no doubt influenced by yours truly) and an entire offseason for Randy Wittman to further integrate his newest strategies on offense (which Wizards fans clamored for all year long), D.C. isn’t the best place for you to play next season, it’s the only place. And that’s the truth.

Sincerely,

The District
