Open Letter to My Young Compatriots Ali, Kigenza, Rusagara and GM

Dear Friends,

As we discussed and agreed before, it is we Rwandans who are the lifeline of the Rwandan dictatorships. Therefore, the task before us is to change the mindset that turns us into zombies that blindly follow and sustain personalistic rulers. We have to begin our journey with ten beliefs and practices:

1. DENOUNCE ANY PRESIDENT IN RWANDA THAT EVER WON ELECTIONS BY OVER 90 PERCENT;

2. DENOUNCE ANY PRESIDENT THAT KILLED RWANDANS TO GRAB POWER;

3. DENOUNCE ANY PRESIDENT THAT CHANGED THE CONSTITUTION TO STAY IN POWER;

4. DISOWN ANY PRESIDENT THAT TURNED RWANDANS INTO REFUGEES;

5. DENOUNCE ANY PRESIDENT THAT DENIED RWANDAN REFUGEES TO RETURN TO THEIR MOTHERLAND;

6. DENOUNCE THE NOTION THAT "MY DICTATOR IS BETTER THAN YOURS" WHICH IS BASED ON TRIBAL IDEOLOGY. A DICTATOR IS A DICTATOR - PERIOD.

7. REACH OUT AND MOBILIZE FELLOW RWANDAN ACTIVISTS THAT ARE NOT MEMBERS OF YOUR ETHNIC GROUP;

8. WITH FELLOW RWANDAN COMPATRIOTS, IDENTIFY AND PROMOTE WHAT UNITES RWANDANS TO OVERCOME WHAT DISUNITES THEM;

9. RECOGNIZE THE INJUSTICE DONE TO THE RWANDAN INDIGENOUS COMMUNITY, ABATWA, BY ALL PAST ALL PAST REGIMES IN RWANDA;

10. REACH OUT TO THE PEOPLE OF DR CONGO WHO HAVE ENDURED KAGAME’S TERROR SINCE 1996.

Let us recall and paraphrase the wisdom of the great American leader and champion the dignity and rights of African Americans in 1963: “And so even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream.”

I have a dream that one day the people of Rwanda will not be judged by their alleged ethnicity but by the content of their character. I have a dream today!

Blessings,

Uncle Himbara
