Dear Senator Cruz, Congratulations on your election to the United States Senate from Texas. As you know sir, there is a lot of work to do, and you must get started. I mean the proper and responsible control of firearms in this country. Senator, I know you are have been endorsed by NRA. That is why you and your fellow Republicans are in the perfect position to hold up your hand and say STOP! to an organization that has held this country hostage for decades. Senator, you are no NRA lackey. You are a Texan, sir. And as a Texan you know what is right. It is time to take a hard look at the NRA and its position on gun ownership and say, Enough. There have been too many gun deaths, too many massacres, too much bloodshed, to support the NRA. You are not beholden to NRA money or votes...

Dear Fellow Americans, Few topics in America generate a more polarized and emotional debate than guns. In recent months, Starbucks stores and our partners (employees) who work in our stores have been thrust unwillingly into the middle of this debate. That’s why I am writing today with a respectful request that customers no longer bring firearms into our stores or outdoor seating areas. From the beginning, our vision at Starbucks has been to create a “third place” between home and work where people can come together to enjoy the peace and pleasure of coffee and community. Our values have always centered on building community rather than dividing people, and our stores exist to give every customer a safe and comfortable respite from the concerns of daily life. We appreciate that...

Dear United States Congress, A little over a month ago on 5 August 2013, Rockne Newell stormed a town hall meeting in Ross Township, Pennsylvania, with a semi-automatic rifle, firing off 28 rounds. He killed three people and injured two more. One of the people he killed was my father, James “Vinny” LaGuardia. Dad was attending the meeting because, as an active citizen, he always sought to improve his community by participating in the democratic process. He was there with his neighbor and good friend, Gerry Kozic, who also died in the shooting. Dad was 64, and we were looking forward to his 65th birthday this November. My father was a loving husband of 40-plus years to my mother, a wonderful man of integrity, a deeply compassionate grandfather to his seven grandchildren, and...

Dear Remnant of the Caucasian Race in America, As you may have noticed, your country – having been established by your Caucasian ancestors specifically for its progeny – has mysteriously been heavily invaded by non-Caucasoids, and is therefore threatening your very existence today. Please be advised that we fully understand and sympathize with your dilemma. And please rest assured that we are here to assuage your concerns, as we truly do care about what you think and believe. Your perception of reality has always been our utmost priority. In order to mitigate this very real threat to you and your descendant’s future, we are preparing to implement a program of martial law to effectively deal with these onerous threats. And even though these measures may at first appear to be in...

Dear Michael, I was alarmed at the recent opinion brief you posted on your website advocating the outlawing of so-called “assault rifles”. ( Back up copy here on JPFO ) I doubt that I’m the only American who was perturbed by your point of view. While loudly decrying and condemning the political trickery of the insidious socialists and authoritarians in our midst, you have now written and published an influential piece to further their agenda. As an American Jew, and the founder of “Jews for the Preservation of Firearms Ownership” (JPFO), I believe that I can offer a unique perspective on the dangerous fallacies of “gun control”. I would hope that I might get you to reconsider your present stance. You seem to be, as are many well meaning Americans, ignorant of certain aspects of...

Dear Matt Cooper and Lori Miller, I just read a report in The Hollywood Reporter about the new comedy you are producing, the one on gun control and a sex boycott. Since that you are in production on Is That a Gun in Your Pocket, which will undoubtedly be a great movie, now is a great time to begin producing the public health audience engagement angle. Comedy or no, your movie will likely inspire real reactions on the real issues and passions surrounding gun control (and sex control?). Let’s partner on the public health parts. I would be a GREAT resource for managing your engagements with the general public, including participation in the likely policy and public health discussions. Email me! Dear Mr. Prime Minister, Thank you for coming to America. I am just a grandma from Goleta who can no longer stand idly by. I can see that the world today is a dangerous place and I fear for my children and grandchildren. It is apparent that we are on the brink of another World War, and yet, the U.S. is somnolent, lulled into an easy, yet unrestful sleep having been soothed by the deceptions of a narcissistic president who prefers to indulge in fantasies rather than lead, as you are doing. He has tarnished the reputation of our once great nation. Ads by Adblade These 12 super foods speed up your weight loss and can potentially help melt fat! Dear President Barack Obama, I appreciate your comments on the “heartache and the sadness and the anger” that many Americans are feeling after the shooting of nine African-American congregants at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church. You pointed out that “this type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries,” and you argued, as you have before, for stricter gun control laws. I agree. After the torture and death of Freddie Gray, you said that we – as a nation – “have some soul-searching to do” and that race-based police violence was not something new. Indeed, it is not. After the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, you said that Trayvon could have been you “35 years ago,” and you pointed out the ways our criminal justice system disproportionately targets and...

To The Honorable Members of the United States Senate and House of Representatives: I am writing to you to discuss the level of influence by certain special interest lobbies, in particular the gun rights lobby. Their influence has outgrown their value to the general welfare of America, and I urge you to consider their counsel with great caution going forward. First, let me assure you that I do not disapprove of lobbyists. I consider the portion of the First Amendment that provides for citizens to petition the government for redress of grievances — or appoint a proxy to petition on their behalf — is highly valuable and gives the American people a much needed role in legislating. My husband is a lobbyist, I have been a registered lobbyist at times, and I fully support the rights of...

Dear Chipotle, I don't eat at your restaurants often. I have never been a regular customer, but rely on my mom's Asian cooking instead. But, when I get a chance to, I will. The outbreaks of food-borne illness at your restaurants, scattered but connected, showed your lack of attention. But, since that period in time, no outbreaks have been reported, making me confident that you have learned from your errors. Moreover, I can safely say that my Chipotle, which I have been eating at for years without incident, is even safer than before. Your restaurants had issues with your supply chain and the decisions of individual managers. Seeing that you are testing your ingredients more heavily for food-borne illnesses and taking huge efforts to train all your employees, I am relieved....
