My attempt to simplify some of the confusion around drones & security came from Security Now… And inspired me to create something neat.
This year, I was invited to NAB to present with a friend on the topic of drones in journalism. The presentation was a wild success, and, on the drive back to Albuquerque, my friend and I discussed some of the major pitfalls people who use drones to shoot aerial footage would likely face over the next year.
By the time the drive was over, Legal Flyer was clearly wire-framed in my head. Now, I just had to take the code plunge.
It turns out just as a photographer needs a model release from the model, so does anyone flying a camera over non-public property. This law isn’t from the FAA, but rather the FCC’s edict which states that property owners own their own airspace from ground level to 400 feet above ground level.
Inspired by the way you approached Squrl despite your other projects, I decided now was the time to start to code. Over the next 111 days, I poured every available moment in to learning Objective-C, Apple's design rules, and xCode's workflow.
You've spoken quite eloquently on many occasions about the hierarchical concepts of programming, championing organization and specificity of concept as inseparable from the code itself. Boy were you right!

I thought you might like to see the kind of security-minded stuff you’ve inspired from me. The app is iPad only but will be out for iPhone and iPod touch in a week or so.
