Dear Supreme Commander and General Philip Breedlove, et al:

As a natural-born American citizen, I write this letter to express grave concern regarding the Turkish-Russian relations following the shootdown of a Russian Sukhoi Su-24 jet on Tuesday, November 24th.

I believe that, upon examining the crisis at the present, the Turkish government’s actions, led by President Erdogen, are not congruent with North Atlantic Alliance’s best interests.

This portends the grave crisis in the regional security and stability during the ongoing and protracted Syrian war that could threaten to unravel towards the large regional warfare between The Russian Federation and the Republic of Turkey, which would parlay to the inducement of the Third World War.

It is my understanding the purpose of NATO’s existence is to manage, resolve, mitigate and prevent the disastrous scenario of a regional war—economic, political or strategic aggression by military or segregationist violation and conflict.

Because of Turkish government’s irresponsible actions while simultaneously disclaiming responsibility in admitting error or deliberate violence, under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan overseeing the military forces, Turkey as a member state of North Atlantic Alliance must be a major liability for NATO, which could threaten to develop to a disastrous scenario in provocation of The Russian Federation, led by President Vladimir Putin, by the virtue of Turkey’s antagonistic actions.

Following the urgent advisement of U.S. Army Major General (Ret.) Paul Vallely, the adverse and counterproductive acts commanded by President Erdogan—wherein the Turkish government attacked Russian properties (millions of dollars [USD] worth of military hardware and the military staff [in particular, the pilots; one survived and one deceased]) over what is interpreted as claim of the violation of Turkey’s sovereignty by crossing the nook of the Turkey-Syria border in a matter of second—must necessitate that Turkey face the formal expulsion from the membership of NATO to avert the crisis with Russia.

ErdoganRussianTurkeyFighterJetMeme1Should Turkey NOT be expelled from NATO over a dangerously precarious situation that would be counterproductive for the ostensible peace, security and regional stability of Europe, Middle East and Central Asia, NATO will assume the liability wrought by the ill-advised and volatile action of the Turkish government that will only continue to antagonize the Russian government which would leave the Russians no choice but to deploy the strategic weapons of war, including the nuclear warheads, targeting Turkey.

Recollect the action of the John F. Kennedy administration that de-escalated the Cuban Missile Crisis by negotiating with the Soviet Union under Secretary Nikita Khrushchev with the removal of the placed Jupiter ballistic missile bases in Turkey in exchange for the removal of the Soviet missile bases in Cuba. This incident was one of the most perilous periods the world has ever faced involving the threat of the nuclear warfare with a singular minute to strike the midnight of the Atomic Doomsday Clock.

President Kennedy’s policy of détente, following the presidential precedents in dealing with the competing superpower U.S.S.R. during the Cold War period fraught with tension and uncertainty, worked well to mitigate and avert the disastrous scenario of the regional war that could mushroom to the global nuclear war.

Hence, NATO exists as the authority that exist to prevent such scenario.

I must reiterate: It is morally and strategically necessary to resolve the currently problematic Turkish-Russian relations by calling the commission to meet to decide, unanimously, to formally expel Turkey from the Alliance, for the following reasons.

First, because at the present in extended crisis with Russia’s retaliatory measures that include noose-tightening sanctions, culpable liability would be too great a burden for NATO to bear and remain stable in place overseeing the European continent bordering the Middle East, as long as Turkey—bearing the role of the hot-headed antagonist—remain in place, impervious to truth, clarity and reason, given the member state Turkey’s past role in aggression such as the invasion of Cyprus in 1974.

map-scoSecondly, Russia is a major organizing member of Shanghai Cooperation Organization, which would be a formidable counter to NATO should the situation precipitated by Turkey’s irresponsible and reckless action escalate to the regional war.

Thirdly, peace and regional as well as global stability are the paramount goal of NATO, to settle the dispute as the mediator without resorting to violence, whether preemptive strike or overt invasion without “just war theory,” illegitimately invoking Article Five of the NATO treaty, as the Turkish government is attempting to apply this pressure, coveting its own selfish interests, which are not congruent with NATO’s interests and mission purposes.

Turkey’s contradiction with aggressive acts, while disclaiming responsibility in arrogant and contrarian attitude, must not be tolerated. Allowing Turkey to maintain its continuing membership with NATO is a burdensome liability.

Henceforth, for the reasons outlined above, and following retired U.S. Major General Paul Vallely’s suggestion, Turkey’s membership must be REVOKED by consensus in order to avert the crisis, following President Kennedy’s strategic peaceful negotiation that averted the Cuban Missile Crisis.

The cost of wide-ranging war in place of global peace would be a terrible price, if NATO does not heed Major General Vallely’s eminent wisdom.

Cordially,

[Aaron H]
