Dear New Girl,
You probably aren’t expecting to read this, and frankly I never thought I would write one of these. But seeing as you have begun to make appearances on all of my social media accounts, I figured this could be good, and not in a bitter way. I could be a stereotypical ex-girlfriend and say a cluster of negative things about you and him, but there is no need.
I have never met you, and you’ve never met me, but there is no doubt in my mind that you know who I am. He was always open about his past so there is no reason for me to pretend like you don’t know who I am. He may have said rude and cruel things about me, some of which may or may not have been true, but I have no doubt that you have the potential to love him like I tried so hard to do.
Tell him you love him and miss him everyday, and mean it. Don’t just say it to say; actually and truly mean it. Love him unconditionally, every minute of everyday, with your whole heart. He will tell you he loves you more, and sometimes it’s easier to just let him win that one. He will tell you that you look beautiful even when every voice in your mind tells you that you look like a wreck. He will try and make cute things for you and you’ll smile and laugh and love every bit of it. He will spoil you and remind you how much you mean to him, and there’s no doubt that he means every word he says. He will give you 110 percent of him and although he may never say it, he expects it all back. Be his biggest fan and greatest confidant. His job can (and does) stress him out and he is going to look to you for company and happiness.
If you ever get to meet his parents don’t be nervous, but know how much family means to him. Interact and engage with them; they truly are intellectual and caring people. They’re kind and generous and probably mean more to him than you could ever fathom. He will always be their little boy even though he’s taller than them. They have shaped him into the loving, patient, God loving man that he is now.
I have no hesitation that you could become the woman for him that I tried so hard to be. You are beautiful and smart. You share the same love for so many different things. You’ve become such a big part of his life in such a short amount of time, and please don’t take that for granted like I did. When you hold onto him, hold on tight. When he smiles at you, smile back. When he says something corny, laugh. When it gets tough and it would be easier to just give up, don’t. Feel free to cry in front of him because he won’t laugh or judge you; he will hold you and love you for becoming so vulnerable. Take in the little things and let them mean so, so much. I know you will take care of him and make him into the best version of himself.
So with all of that being said, make endless memories and soak it all up. I wish you nothing but the best. I wish you joy and happiness. I wish you stability and love. I wish you endless smiles. I wish you laughs and happy tears and laughs that become tears.
Best regards and warm wishes,
His Old Girl
