An Open Letter to Leaders of All the World’s Countries From a Natural Born Citizen of the United States

Dear Foreign Leaders of Other Countries,

Should the President of the United States, or anyone else purporting to be duly authorized to make deals with any of you about anything, you should be advised that we hold elections here in this country every few years, and any deals that might be proposed or struck with you are liable to be changed, disavowed, nullified, repudiated, rescinded, or otherwise rendered moot by future elected leaders of our country. We are a fickle and forgetful people, and we change our minds about things frequently. We are not well-served by our media, and we are led by politicians who tell us what they tell us in order to please the people who bankroll their political ambitions. For these and other reasons, you should be wary about entering into agreements with us about anything. No one has the authority to make agreements with you on any subject whatsoever without the attendant likelihood that those agreements will be deemed moot, either immediately, or within the space of a very few years.

That is just how we roll these days. So, if you are the leader of one of the world’s nations, and you get a call from the President of the United States, or anyone else who presumes to speak for this country, please be advised that I, for one, have not authorized that call, nor have I been consulted on the matter. I vote, and so do a small but significant number of my fellow citizens, and any deal you strike with whosoever contacts you from our government probably will be null and void by the time we vote again.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

Jaime O’Neill
American Citizen
