Dear Governor Bush:

It is refreshing to hear all of the Republican candidates discussing and standing for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

It was most welcome to hear you mention His name in the Iowa debate and indicate His importance to you. Praise the Lord for His influence in your life. It will be great to see you in heaven.

Please carefully consider this advice. Christians are all fellow sinners who are saved and are trying to conform to the perfect example of Jesus Christ, but who continues to fail. Truly, to please God, this takes time in prayer and Bible study. It is frustrating but perfection will never be grasped, aside from Christ.

First, you cannot have it both ways, and please God. Your approach to abortion, despite clear directions from the Bible, is designed to please the world. Isn’t striving for political gain against what you know is God’s concern, friendship with the world? The apostles James and John warned of this.

James 4: 4 You adulterous people, don't you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. 5 Or do you think Scripture says without reason that the spirit he caused to live in us envies intensely?

1John 4: 15 Do not love the world or anything in the world . If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

Second, if you are as pro-life as you indicate in the back rooms to people like Jerry Falwell, what is more important than saving our country from God’s impending judgement, partially due to the blood spilled in the name of choice? We simply cannot continue business as usual. God will not allow us to continue to proudly carry His name and willfully violate His law at the same time.

We must have a leader who realizes this preeminent concern or we will greatly suffer and our God (possibly using others) may well destroy our nation. Your comment in regard to ‘slouching toward Gomorrah’ was simply wrong. Please read Romans 1. Spend time in God’s Word. Christ was not a philosopher. He is Truth.

If you are up to this task, follow the lead of Alan Keyes. He understands this truth and you have been exposed to his clear reasoning. Gary Bauer simply asked you a point-blank question regarding your running mate and you deflected, allowing for the possibility of a pro-choice VP. Do you really think this pleases God?

As a Christian, why won’t you stand firm for God’s issue that you agree is important? How can you be a servant of God and not follow His lead? As our Father, God will not appreciate a morally indifferent stand on any issue, at any time from His children.

Surely you are not triangulating when you discuss Christ. This seemed to be the case following the Christian Coalition meeting. That would be the most egregious offense against our LORD, using His name for political gain. This certainly seems highly unlikely, given the way you handled the question in Iowa. Not even our current president can lie that proficiently.

If what you are trying to do is to ensnare the pro-choice voters, what will you owe them? Don’t you realize that He who is with you is greater than they are? You are confusing brothers and sisters in Christ with this approach. God’s people should not be confused. We must stand firm and let the chips fall as God allows, trusting in Him for the best results. That, by the way, would currently exclude voting for you.

As Alan Keyes so eloquently says, you rightfully would have a litmus test of a non-bigot for a running mate and any federal judges you would appoint. You would have litmus tests of careful speech, reasonable intelligence, concern for others, and other noble traits. If abortion were morally equivalent to murder, as is the only logical conclusion, you would not appoint a murderer for any position.

As Christians, our sins are forgiven. Each of us will be held accountable to our Almighty God for our decisions, even if the consequences are simply not holding His values high, disappointing Him. An omniscient God knows the moral stands for which our votes have been cast. By taking a lukewarm approach, you will cause good-hearted Christians to make a decision that undoubtedly disappoints God.

This is a recipe for losing the election. A house divided will fall. Thoughtful Christians will choose another candidate who fails to waffle on God’s concerns. Abortion is not just another issue. It violates God’s law. Political issues come and go (tax structure, military, social security, etc.). God’s law is forever. We must not fail for our own sake.

As fellow Christians, we would like you to reconsider your current approach. Your concern with pleasing any potential voters (including us) must take second place to those moral issues that gain God’s favor. As Christians, we have a job to do, greater than being president, to help save our world. As a brother in Christ, could you disagree?

Sincerely,

Dio
