Justin Trudeau,

Respected Secretary of State and Prime Minister,

It is stated, the United States and Canada are good friends of Pakistan, always helped her in tough times. Nevertheless, mainstream media in Pakistan and world over is reporting the letters written by 60 US lawmakers on April 11th and Canada-Pakistan Parliamentary Friendship Group on 20th April in Canada respectively, intended for voicing, pressurize and interfacing over democracy, human rights, and rule of law in Pakistan.

I would like to inform you, violent protests (political terrorism) erupted across Pakistan after the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, cricketer turned politician, by Pakistan’s anti-corruption agency on corruption charges. Mr. Khan and his wife accused of having received land worth up to 7 billion rupees ($24.7 million) from a property developer who had been charged in Britain with money laundering. The political terrorist targeted Pakistani military facilities and institutions across Pakistan, stormed the Pakistan Army General Headquarter (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. Similarly, burned the Crops commander’s residence inside the military cantonment in Lahore, correspondingly regional parliamentary building for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province along with other state’s institutional buildings.

In the interim, attack on military headquarter of nuclear-armed country, representing sharp decline of public trust in the Pakistani military and state institutions. Pakistan is reeling from the worst economic crisis in decades, with record high inflation and anemic growth. An International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout package has been delayed for months and foreign exchange reserves are barely enough to cover a month’s imports. On the meantime, political terrorism from PTI has placed Pakistan at a critical juncture. Future trajectory of any nation largely depends on economy of the state.

It is requested, the United States and Canada should not involve in Pakistan’s internal matters – people of Pakistan respect Constitutions and democratic process of both countries. There are no signs of human rights violations, political victimization and Pakistan is going through democratic and institutional reforms. All the institutions are working in their boundaries and rule of law is taking its own course of actions. It is further requested, if US and Canada really want to help Pakistan as a state, please help her to boost the economy of country. In this regard, immediately, both of you should help the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and other state institutions to recover the corruption money steal from Pakistan, invested in real estate, business, press/media & lobbying firms and parked in the safe havens of US, Canada or any other country around the world, either by politicians, business groups or military generals.

Democracy and rule of law will always prevail, and I look forward to your timely and substantive response to my urgent request.

Sincerely,

Mirza A.A. Baig
(On behalf of common voters of Pakistan, who wants to see flourishing Pakistan)
