'We want our country back'!
Was this what you wanted? This unrest as racism and xenophobia ripple through the UK? Was this what your grandparents fought for - division, in the country you live? Abuse? Hatred? People feeling scared? Are you happy now?
Shame on you all those that voted out because of immigration.
Yes our borders should be tighter. Yes it's scary the thought of terrorists in the country. But no matter how tight the borders are, bad people will always get through. And the majority of immigrant who took to our country are hard working and good hearted and, actually, proving to be a lot more decent then some. The bad people will always find ways of crossing borders. Fake passports. Back of lorries.
Unemployment is not as bad as you believe. Have you looked at the figures? I have never been worried about an immigrant 'taking my job' because I'm bloody good at it. And I lived and worked in Croydon, the capital for immigration in the South.
All my working life I have had the pleasure of working with & employing many, many immigrants. In Hospitality I had housekeeping, cleaners, waiting staff, bar staff (some of the best bar staff I've ever had in fact), kitchen porters, chefs, dray crew and even management. And I am pretty sure that many, if not all, of the people 'wanting my country back' have been served by an immigrant, slept in a hotel bed previously cleaned by an immigrant, drunk beer served or delivered to the pub by an immigrant, purchased groceries stacked on to the shelf by an immigrant .... And I bet none of you objected. And that's not to mention the thousands you may not have encountered in hospital yet their job helped at some stage of the process. During my short time in Care I have worked alongside many hardworking & non complaining immigrants. Many of whom was the ONLY applicants in the recruiting process.
Shame on all you 'We want our country back' who accepted, without question, the jobs that immigrants had in your life, because you wanted something. Shame on you.
I have done a fair amount of travelling in my lifetime and have worked in Muslim countries. I was treated equally, fairly and without prejudices or racism. In December they even erected a Christmas tree for all the ex-pats who celebrated despite the fact they didn't. I managed pubs in the middle of a Muslim country and had no opposition from them at all. Oh what a great deal of unity we could learn from these people.
I am saddened and utterly ashamed that there are people in my country of birth that are racist, xenophobic and he'll bent on causing rifts and dispute between us.
And for all of you that think you know me ..... What you are unlikely to know is that my Great Grandparents was Polish Jews who came to the UK to escape the war. They lived in Scotland and adopted the name Murray to fit in. So I, too, am here because of immigration. Should I go back too or am I allowed to stay because I was born here?
To any immigrants reading this ..... I have spent all of my 40+ years with immigrants impacting my life in one way or another .... And I never want that to change. I am utterly ashamed of some of the people I share this country with and I am sorry for the abuse and the hate and for you feeling like you don't belong. They are a small minority and the rest of us do not want to run you out of the country.
