Dear Mr. Haslam,

You recently made a statement that no matter what happens this coming season to the Cleveland Browns team that “We’re not going to blow things up, okay?” during your press conference at the Browns Training Camp.

While I agree that many changes have been made from the general manager and head coach, you need some semblance of consistency and order, and we have seen what happens when this is done.

You have built a better offensive line than we have had in years here. However, what I have a problem with is the fact that if for any reason there is not a dramatic improvement in the offense this year, the immense lack of players at the skill positions on the offensive side of the ball have been neglected.

The simple fact that your club drafted Johnny Manziel instead of Teddy Bridgewater or Derek Carr, who are both starting for the teams that drafted them, should speak volumes about his usefulness to this team! He has yet to show the progress needed to compete for a starting role.

I don’t think a need to scrap what has been done or have yet another reset is in order, but a change in philosophy might be needed. Hopefully you can keep this defense pretty much intact for a couple more years, but the thinking on what must be done to improve the offense must come to the front of the to do list!

Regardless of what Ray Farmer or Mike Pettine think about offensive skill positions, mainly wide receiver and quarterback, they must put that ahead of the rest of what needs to be done.

To my knowledge there have been no teams that have gone to the super bowl that did not have their franchise quarterback at the helm in the last five to seven years! In fact, the only team I can think of that ever made it very far without one was the Baltimore Ravens with Trent Dilfer and it happened only once!

If the team has a great year this season then I will deeply apologize. With the way most people who know more than I are predicting, we will have to wait a while longer for a playoff spot.

Sincerely,
