Seeing the best in people is a choice. It’s amazing to look at people and appreciate their kindness, hope for their goodness.
To look at the world with a view of appreciation and love, rather than with pessimism and caution.
Some will call you naïve, some will take advantage of your kindness, and some will use it to their benefit.
But you must never forget, that it is not that you are not intelligent enough or wise enough to see things for as they are, but rather brave enough to hope, brave enough to have faith.
It is a choice- a choice to live every day hoping that people will surprise you- believing in them.
I know it will hurt at times, when people let you down, but you must never lose that. In a world of so much hatred, you must remain optimistic. If you start closing yourself off now, all the pain you’ve endured at the hands of those who didn’t deserve your optimism, will have been for not.
People can hurt you. They can use you. But they cannot change you.
You are different than most, and that is a good thing. Never run from that. Never regret it. Keep loving people. Keep seeing the best in people.
In a world of negativity, if you start searching for it, it will surround you, drowning out your hope, your love for others.
You are not at fault for the failures of those who chose to hurt you. You were not born into this world to be a martyr- to sacrifice your own happiness, in order to appease those who only think of themselves.
So first and foremost, stay true to who you are.
If others choose to go down a path of hatred and manipulation, then you can always walk away knowing that it wasn’t because you didn’t give them a chance.
And one day, someone will come along who will see you for who you are, and love you wholly and truly. They will not take advantage of you and use you, but rather act as if you are precious to them. Treat you like you’ve treated others throughout your life. And then- it will be those who lost you that have to live with the consequences of their actions; and that hurt and pain will be but a vague memory.
And life will make sense.
You won’t have to look for the good in that person, because it will be so blatantly obvious, that no searching is needed. It will be easy and light, and you will be happy.
Until that time comes, remember, every single person makes thousands of choices every single day. And although you can hope and pray that someone makes the right choice, ultimately, it is his or hers alone to make.
So make your own choices, stay true to who you are, and I promise you will find someone who treasures that, simply and effortlessly so.
