In the book The Great Gatsby, Nick is an average middle class citizen, his neighbor and friend Jay Gatsby is one of the richest men in the city of New York during the mid 1920’s. Jay throws these luxurious parties and always has the best quality of stuff you can buy. Everyone who lives in the world automatically gets put into 1 of 3 tiers, Lower Class, Middle Class, and the Upper Class. This gets determined when you are born, you follow whatever your parents are. Everyone has to decide if they want to stay in their economic class range or raise their class range, whether you are trying to become an upper class citizen from lower class or if you want to become an upper class from a middle class. There are many ways of going to economic classes that are above you, most people do a lot of hard work, that’s how you ask most people who have made it say the way they did it, but then you have people like Jay Gatsby who had some ways of getting rich that were a little off such as crime, gang and since they were in prohibition he smuggled booze into bars.

An example that I can personally be connected to with is our family. My dad took Nick’s way. He started his own business and still runs and owns his own graphic design business. He started it back in the late 80’s, it takes time to create a successful business. All of my life I have grown up as a stable middle class family, I would say that we have the American Dream. We have money to spend and we aren’t struggling with family. When I was a child we always took vacations to places. We went to see the Grand Canyon, Los Angles, Florida, and up north to see Yellowstone and Mount Rushmore. I have been grateful of the experiences that I have had over my youth years. It’s all because of my parent’s hard work. As an Society everyone has to work hard to stay and go into the next economic class.

These economic classes should be handled through people working hard and creating more jobs so then that opens up more opportunities for other people. I think everyone should have the same chance of having the American Dream and getting to that so called upper class. It doesn’t matter if you’re from Mexico, Kenya, Russia or if their fleeing from Syria and becoming a refugee. You have to do something to make money sitting on your butt and collecting unemployment won’t get you anywhere. There are ways to make money that are little conversation. A lot of people invest in real estate, or some others invest in stocks and small businesses, and some also invest in cars that are going to appreciate and then they can buy more cars and more real estate. Some include playing the stocks and playing them a way to make money off of other people’s losses. In today’s society you need to have a job that can take you places, not McDonalds making 25 cents over minimum wage. You got to work hard most importantly and make money to do better for yourself. Money can never buy happiness; you have to work for happiness.
