Guilt

There are many different types of guilt. The first type of guilt is when you feel bad for a short period of time and you forget it ever happened. For example, calling someone ugly and apologizing 10 minutes after. The other type of guilt is the type that eats you alive. An example of this guilt is committing a crime. These guilt have two completely different meanings.
In the novel Crime and Punishment, the main character Raskninikov commits a crime. He murders a land lady and receives the second type of guilt. He gets anxious and is very uneasy with the idea of him committing the crime and getting caught later on. Another example that relates to Raskninlkov is a man named Darin Strauss who committed a crime but by accident. Being a teenager at the time and not paying attention, he hit a young girl on her bike with his car. He also dealt with the second type of guilt where it eats you alive. They felt the same type of guilt.
When understanding why they felt this guilt, you, the reader, have to understand what it feels like to have guilt. Everyone, some point in their life, has felt guilt to a certain degree.
The difference between these two examples of the second time of guilt and the first type of guilt is the feeling you get. For the first guilt, you feel sorry. You know you didn’t mean to affect anyone but you get over it eventually. The second type is the one where it’s all you can think about. This is where the saying “the guilt eats you alive” comes from. It’s all you can think about, you have a low feeling for yourself and it affects the way you are. There is a big difference.
Sometimes its hard to understand the difference between guilt, but once you do a certain action, you will know what type of guilt you’re feeling.
