Here’s to anyone who has ever been in love,
I read the novel The Age of Innocence and coming into the book I didn’t really think that I was going to be able to finish or eve start it for that matter. I’m not going to lie, at the beginning it was really hard to me and I was doing that reading thing where you read it but you have no idea what happen and you don’t feel like going back to at least try to re-read it. Eventually it finally got good and I ended up getting really mad and realizing I can relate to the novel a lot. N In the novel, the age of innocence, Archer has always been lined up to marry May, because her and her family had money and back then that’s what was the “right” thing to do. You were supposed to marry whoever was choose for you. So, even though He fell in love with Ellen at first sight, he still married May. He had to pretty much make a decision to stay with or cheat on May. But, no matter who/what he would choose he would end up hurting someone. And in the end he chooses the one everyone else wants him to choose and even 30 years later it still haunts him.
Archer fell in love with Ellen pretty much the first time he laid eyes on her. But, he still ended up marrying May no matter how hard it was to do so. More towards the end of the book, Archer goes on a trip to Paris with his son and this image of Ellen is still in his head. To me if that isn’t love then honestly, I don’t know what is.
When I was six, my parent split up. I lived with my Grandpa until I was fourteen and then I had to choose who I was going to live, with, my mom or my dad. I knew no matter who I was going to choose it would hurt the other (just like Archer). It didn’t only hurt my mom because I choose my dad, but, it hurt me choosing my dad and not living with her. Most of the time parents don’t really see that even though they’re hurting and they both want and love the child involved (most of the time) it hurts us, and probably more than anyone will ever know.
I knew it was going to be hard, I mean who/what I picked pretty much determined everything. From, what school I was going to. If I was going to stay with people that I had grew up with and seen blossom or a whole new world and whole new people. To, who was going to challenge me the most. If was being brat so to say and I didn’t want to go to school, who was going to make me get up and go and who was going to let me stay home in fear I would just not go anyway. Did you know that you make over 35,000 decisions a day? That’s a lot, some are big some are small.
Everyone has been in love no matter if it’s with a person, a child, a animal. There’s so many different types of love and a love triangle no matter what type it is, is very confusing. And no matter how good we have it or if we find our prince charming or princess, it almost always seems like we want what we can’t have, like there’s always going to be someone out there somewhere who’s better than what we have now. Now, I’m not saying we’re not in love with the person we’re with but there’s always going to be someone better looking or doing better than the one you have, like a celebrity.
The purpose of my letter isn’t to get people to stop falling in love or stop getting people to marry someone, I mean that’s way out there. But, to think about everything first. Does love or Money matter more?
All in all, we all have a problem or issue with something just like Archer did, but I guess that’s where the loyalty and the “good decision” making process comes in. In the end it’s your choice who you choose and we all have our reasons. There are so many was to go about dealing with them. And at the end of the day the day you’re the only one who knows what to do. No one ever said that who you don’t choose wont still be in your heart and you won’t just fall out of love with them, it’s always going to be there. So don’t make any rational decisions.
