Dear Senior, you are currently in a very emotional and stressful period of time as you are getting ready to open your wings and fly, or in this case graduate. you are probably planing what you are going to wear underneath your gown, starting to decorate your cap, and eve thinking about the bad ass summer activities that will be on your Instagram feed the next couple of months. you are probably scared as shit to start a new chapter of individuality and responsibility in life.
As graduation day approaches there are a few things you should keep in mind, graduation is a celebration of not just high school completion but of the life learning experiences, its about the celebration of not leaving, but entering into an even bigger educational step, and by this i don’t mean college, i mean life. because life itself is a school, and because life has and will teach you more then a paper and pencil will ever do. because life has and will make you stronger, because life has and will always let you succeed no matter what your SAT score is.
we sadly live is a society where even on the day of your graduation we are separated into groups instead of making it an equal celebration for all, our schools and districts give the “NHS” kids the privilege to graduate first because they have been a great exemplar to our community but don’t recognize the struggles kids like you have gone through and yet still manage to graduate. don’t be sorry that your community service work is defined by a signature and not by the amount of hours you might have care of your little siblings every day after school, don’t be sorry that you could not do any sports because you had to work 2 part-time jobs, don’t be sorry at all that you will not wear that stole and know that its ok because as people say “he who laughs last, laughs longest” and always keep in mind that a 2.0 student can be smatter and more successful then a 4.0 student.
