Dear Client of Reqwired, In 1999, both CE Manager and Reqwired entered the legal market with CLE compliance tracking software. Now, more than 15 years later, as Thomson Reuters discontinues Reqwired, it leaves one solid, premier choice on the market – the only one with over a decade of experience and expertise at calculating and tracking the complexities of CLE rules and requirements across the US – CE Manager. All that remains are newcomers to the market, with little experience at CLE compliance tracking or at CLE data conversions. The strength of CE Manager’s CLE tracking is unmatched. It calculates CLE requirements – and all of their nuances – with detail and precision like no other software, in over 300 jurisdictions worldwide. CE Manager is the only software that is relied...

Dear Dealer & General Manager: All the economic indicators and the automotive industry analysts are optimistic about the remainder of 2012. I even saw one prediction that said new car sales will flirt with a figure near 14 million units. Used car gross profits remain solid and overall customer satisfaction indicators are continuing their steady climb upward. I’m very optimistic, too; yet, I have a concern, and that’s why I’m writing this letter. When “the wheels came off” the automotive industry in 2009, many of you looked to fixed operations to carry your water. It worked! The 70% gross profit from service and the 40% gross from parts looked really good at the time, and it kept the dealership afloat. Many dealerships have been looking at their parts and service departments...

Dear Hockey Fans and Supporters, You may have heard about a complaint concerning the national anthem and the large American Flag at the west end of the arena. Here are the facts of the matter. As you all know, the city has installed a brand new, state of the art scoreboard. In an effort to highlight the singing of the national anthem, the Aces decided to test putting the person singing the anthem on the scoreboard along with an animated presentation of the American Flag. This is what was attempted by the Aces on Sunday. Subsequently, a hockey fan, operated the lanyard that draws the large flag out and back behind the curtain and displayed the Flag. This was not done by anyone associated with the Aces and violated the established protocol of displaying our flag. Knowing that this was...

DEAR PARADOX INTERACTIVE AND CO MANAGERS AND PROGRAMMERS, I purchased Cities: Skylines with the expectation that it would exceed the performance of SimCity. I was banking on the premise that the game would be a smooth sale for Mac (using a Mac Pro) unlike SimCity. To be fair; it was as such for a while. However regrettably, the game has become more and more unstable and the problems has reached the threshold of becoming more and more annoying. It appears that it was not actually “fully” ready for Mac environment and this is showing. To give three examples; the infamous Japanese / Zen Garden keeps on vanishing and coming back; I don't see most of the new buildings (such as public soccer field); I have to force quit the game to close Steam overlay. These are just three persistent...

Dear Sir or Madam, I’m writing you this little correspondence in regards to that sticky situation that occurs when you walk onto my unit before I am aware. In that instance when I am sprawled out in a rolling chair with the back reclined, a Diet Coke in hand you will walk unexpectedly around the corner. You will see me laughing, and perhaps almost be infected yourself by my jovial chuckle. But in this particular moment you will be quite certain that I am in fact doing nothing. You will assume that I am performing the carnal sin of nursing by not actually doing a thing. Well, I must be honest with you. At the moment, the truth is… I am doing nothing. You will have caught me red-handed doing zilch. In that moment of discovery of my apparent boredom you will be inspired to find me...

Dear Madam(s) and Sirs Greetings from a long-suffering woman, a shocked and appalled parent, a worried social scientist, an angered citizen, a furious teacher, a firm believer in the Indian Constitution determined to defend it, a irredeemable feminist — I greet you in all these capacities. Respected Madam(s) and Sirs, my grievances are all about you, in fact, about the incalculable damage you are collectively doing to young people in Kerala, to the future of democracy here. They are about your utter disregard for the spirit and the letter of the Indian Constitution and your and powerful hatred of young people in general and young women in particular, clearly manifest in your despicable efforts to deny them their rights as Indian citizens. My grievances are also about your utter...

Dear Nigel, I have always backed you as our manager and will continue to do so as long as you are in the so called hot seat. However, I, along with a vast majority of fans are getting frustrated at our performances this season. I accept that we do not see what goes on in the training sessions and behind the scenes but we do see what goes on for 90 minutes every Saturday and it is hard for us to understand what is happening sometimes. Last season, our record breaking Championship winning season was built on consistency – something that has gone out of the window it seems this term. Our team is being changed on a weekly basis. Yesterday’s game proved that players cannot pass effectively when the understanding that comes through regularly playing with the same team members does not exist...

Dear Micromanager: Owners of thoroughbreds never stop their horses mid-race, every ten seconds, to remind the horse and jockey how to run, where the finish line is, or that it’d be good to finish first. Why? It would slow them down. Only an idiot would do this. If you’re a manager, you must assume you have thoroughbreds working for you. Your job is to give them what they need to win their respective races, agreeing with them on goals and rewards, but then getting the hell out of the way. Until they start jumping fences or attacking other horses, you must let them run their race. Even if you are 30% better at a task than someone who works for you, the time it takes for you to check on them every few hours, and demand approvals over trivial decisions, costs more in lost morale,...

Dear Manager, As someone who has been a manager and also someone who has been managed, I can safely say with no reservations that we need stronger leadership in companies all over, and I’m looking to you to help. I recently wrote about what I wish I knew as a young manager, and a lot of it (and then some) is relevant here. And it doesn’t end with my experience. In fact, that’s only the beginning. The work I do on a daily basis with my clients is largely comprised of navigating situations where weak, inconsistent, head-in-the-sand or just plain bad management is at play. I’ll provide two examples for your consideration. One: A client of mine is responsible for making sure her work gets done, but because she is not a strategy person but instead an ‘implementer’ she relies on the...

Dear Chuck, I hope this finds you in the way I always see you, in great spirits, with great joy and full of life. There are some things I want to openly say to you that sometimes in conversation get lost. Firstly I lied! You ARE the greatest Power Forward of all time. It’s not (Tim) Duncan or (Karl) Malone, they had size and height that you weren’t blessed with and you never had near the talent around you that they were blessed to have. Contrarily you took your teams to similar heights. Secondly, you are a champion in my book. Effort and determination is what makes a champion, not a ring. Lastly, you are the most entertaining person in sports television (partly because I throw you so many assists lol). However, what I consistently find interesting is how writers and media...
