Dear Columbus City School Board,
I’m writing this letter because this is all too much. All of us students having to wake up at the crack of dawn and earlier, just to catch a bus and go to a blazing hot or freezing cold school with no windows.
Us students are waking up at 5 a.m or earlier to rush to get ready and then run to our bus, which half of the time never comes, to hear loud kids and rude bus drivers at 6 in the morning. You can’t possibly expect us to wake up at 5 a.m or earlier, catch the bus, go to school, get home at 3 and have enough time to do everything that needs to be done. We would have to go to sleep around 7 or 8 o’clock to get our full nights sleep, which doesn't leave us that much time to do our homework, study, eat dinner, and do extra curricular activities and school sports.
I get that we have to get home early because of our little siblings. But it's so much to do , little kids go to bed earlier than us, so why can't they wake up earlier? That sounds logical, right? We stay up late to study and do other stuff so how can we wake up early? I think we should switch times with elementary school kids. That sounds like a match made in heaven.
When i wake up at 4:50 a.m to get ready, i feel so low energetic. Me pulling myself out of bed to go use the bathroom, looking at myself in the mirror with bags and sleep in my eyes. I rush to pick out my outfit and get dressed, to then hear my mom yell “breakfast is ready!” I go to eat breakfast and listen about somebody being killed on the news. Then i go finish getting ready and i’m out of the door before 6 in the morning. The sun is not even awake yet, why should i be ?
Sincerely,
Your tired high school student
