Dear Mr. Vucic, I address you in this open letter to express my dismay, and my protest, regarding the hiring of Tony Blair, former Prime Minister of Great Britain as an advisor to the Government of the Republic of Serbia. I am a Serbian and British writer, and since the start of the civil war in Yugoslavia in 1990 the vice president of the Parliament for Serbian Unity for Europe for 13 years, thereafter becoming an independent lobbyist until the present day. My last lobbying action was on 4 February 2015 to the British Parliament, to protest against radioactive pollution in Serbia, the result of NATO bombing of Yugoslavia in 1999, which have caused a large increase in leukemia and cancer-related illnesses. I think that qualifies me and gives me the moral right to address you and state my...

Dear Reader, The first set of publications based on Edward Snowden’s files were concerned with surveillance of internet communication happening more indiscriminately and on a much larger scale than previously thought. The more recent publications, presenting the systematic undermining of cryptographic solutions and standards, are the cause of much more substantial worry. As some of the leading UK researchers in the field of cryptography and computer security we feel compelled to comment on the recent revelations. The UK and US governments recently dramatically increased the funding available to various agencies to help protect our countries against Cyber Attack. Such attacks are now commonplace on both corporations, and individuals. We now all rely on cryptography to secure our...

Dear Evangelical Establishment, I know you don’t trust or like me and I don’t blame you! Lord knows what a pain in the ass I am! But instead of just writing me off as wicked, for once you’d better listen up. This is for your own good. In the old days your predecessors didn’t like me because I was faulting you all for not being part of the Religious Right! No kidding. I changed sides. Now you are the right wingers I wanted you to become and then some, and I’m a nasty liberal writing books with unsettling titles like WHY I AM AN ATHEIST WHO BELIEVES IN GOD: How to give love, create beauty and find peace. Weird, huh? But here’s the point. And I tell you this for old times sake: You’ve been duped and it’s not by me. So please read this “open letter” to you to understand what’s...

Dear Administrative Council, You are meeting this week at a crucial time in the history of the European Patent Organisation. There is staff unrest resulting from the ongoing programme of reforms, and the Organisation faces problems concerning the constitutional position of the Boards of Appeal. The oversight and supervision of the European Patent Office (EPO) is down to you and you alone. The European and indeed worldwide patent community looks to you to act. The European Patent Convention (EPC) is drafted with only a two-way separation of powers within the European Patent Organisation between the Administrative Council as the legislature and overseeing body on the one hand, and the EPO headed by the President as the executive agency on the other. The Boards of Appeal, which...

Dear Narendra Modi, Amitabh Bachchan, Sachin Tendulkar, Shahrukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Anil Ambani, I am writing to YOU specifically because you are the most powerful and influential MEN in our country. I am writing to you as a woman who grew up in a middle class family in Mumbai. I am writing to YOU for HELP! My parents may not like me saying this. I apologize to them if they are reading but this is NOT MY SHAME. It's THIER SHAME. My first experience with the opposite sex, was when I was just 13 and groped by a man (never saw his face but will never forget his hand) while walking in the vegetable market with my mom. She had just given me the worst haircut and as an angry teenager I was upset at her and was lagging behind as she walked ahead. I still remember...

Dear Governor Kasich, My name is Justin Bachman, and I am a concerned 17-year-old soon-to-be voter from Solon, Ohio. My whole life I have been different. I have Tourette Syndrome, a medical condition that causes me to have uncontrollable twitches, movements and vocal outbursts called tics. My tics have caused me a lot of adversity, but they are a part of who I am, and have given me an accepting and tolerant outlook on the world. Because I am so outwardly different in a way that I cannot control, I know what it feels like to be misrepresented, and to be ignored by the people you think are fighting to serve you. I am not writing to you today to ask for support for myself, or people with my condition. I am, however, writing to you in support of people who are different. I am writing...

Dear Readers (Robert in particular), Our recent post, Is Football More Important Than Rape, syndicated by us from YourTango and written by Charles J. Orlando, ignited one of the most spirited and thoughtful debates EMandLO.com has had in a long time. The first response came from Robert, a long-time reader, now (sniff) no-more: I come to Em and Lo to read articles that are fair and interesting. I like reading about empowering women, gender equality, and sexual exploration. BUT I will not do it at the expense of my beliefs in due process, racial equality, and just being [a] good human free of hate. The incendiary piece puts forth Orlando’s opinion that FSU football player Jameis Winston is guilty of the date rape he’s been accused of (despite a lack of trial or conviction) and that the...

Dear San Diego Symphony, You know I love you. In over 10 years of subscribing to both the Jacobs Masterworks Series and the San Diego Opera, we’ve seen a lot of each other over the years. Your performances have only gotten more consistently excellent, and you’ve frequently thrilled me by playing pieces I particularly adore, showcasing your talented players in concertos and commissioning new works. But I confess: the line-up for the 2013-2014 Jacobs Masterworks Series leaves me, if not cold, then lukewarm, so I have to ask: Can we please change things up a bit? Do We Need That Much Romantic Music? Don’t get me wrong: I love that you’re doing a Beethoven Festival, even though you did one three years ago. Beethoven is undeniably great. Besides, he’s a bridge between the mannerly...

Hey fellas, I recently wrote an "Apology to OnePlus". It was a heartfelt apology that I felt I needed to make. I doubted them, derided them on social media (specifically Facebook), and made negative threads regarding them. So I apologized. Then suddenly, there became speculation (around page 4), that I was an "insider" working for OPO, and that I wasn't a real person. I hope to dispel that notion. First, that wasn't my first style of a note I wrote. If you look at my posts, you'll see they all have the same style "letter" format. I've been writing like this for a long time now on multiple forums. It's my style. Most people I feel tend to like it. Also, here's my Google+ page. As you can see, I'm not an insider. I'm just a regular hoping, like many people on here, to grab this...
