Letter to Mr. Félix Faure, President of the Republic Mr. President, Would you allow me, in my gratitude for the benevolent reception that you gave me one day, to draw the attention of your rightful glory and to tell you that your star, so happy until now, is threatened by the most shameful and most ineffaceable of blemishes? You have passed healthy and safe through base calumnies; you have conquered hearts. You appear radiant in the apotheosis of this patriotic festival that the Russian alliance was for France, and you prepare to preside over the solemn triumph of our World Fair, which will crown our great century of work, truth and freedom. But what a spot of mud on your name—I was going to say on your reign—is this abominable Dreyfus affair! A council of war, under order, has...

16 April 1963 My Dear Fellow Clergymen: While confined here in the Birmingham city jail, I came across your recent statement calling my present activities "unwise and untimely." Seldom do I pause to answer criticism of my work and ideas. If I sought to answer all the criticisms that cross my desk, my secretaries would have little time for anything other than such correspondence in the course of the day, and I would have no time for constructive work. But since I feel that you are men of genuine good will and that your criticisms are sincerely set forth, I want to try to answer your statement in what I hope will be patient and reasonable terms. I think I should indicate why I am here in Birmingham, since you have been influenced by the view which argues against "outsiders coming in."...

Congratulations Justin Don't let anyone tell you that you are cashing in on your family name. The media is talking about the Trudeau dynasty and sort. As you mentioned in your victory speech "I didn't make history, you did". Well, thanks for your thoughtfulness. Canadians need a change. Steven Harper had his mandate straight for a good amount of time. But with time like a sports athlete, lost sight of what is important now; not 10 years ago. And that frustrated my fellow citizens. What We Expect Your campaign's tag lines "We listened" and "Real Change". I request you to remember these important messages as change is the only thing that is constant. In the last 10 years Canadians have watched our core values stripped off of us. Values of tolerance, peace and growth. I hope you...

Dear Governor, As a concerned citizen of Ago Iwoye and Ogun state as a whole, I am writing this letter to remind you on what looks like a forgotten promise. I remember vividly when you were campaigning to be the governor of Ogun state for your first term, part of the promises you made was to fix the three major bridges that led into Ago Iwoye and also the Ilesan road amongst others. Before you came into power the former governor manage to fix only one of those bridges, the one after the permanent site of Olabisi Onabanjo University if you are coming from the Ilesan road but it is the first bridge you would see if you are coming from Ago Iwoye town. I can’t begin to count the numbers of lives that have been lost on that bridge so it was a relief when the governor fixed it but...

Law Students for Refugees, a student organisation at the University of Melbourne Law School, has written an open letter to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, about the treatment of Abyan and respecting the rule of law. Dear Prime Minister Turnbull, We are writing to express our deep concern at the Immigration Department’s recent actions regarding Abyan, the pregnant Somali refugee who was recently flown from Australia. The sequence of choices made by Immigration Minister Peter Dutton demonstrates a complete disregard for the fundamental requirements of the rule of law upon which this country is founded, as well as a profound incomprehension of the situation facing victims of gender-based violence. Australia is built on the notion of the rule of law. We, as a country, subscribe...

Congratulations on your historic victory Prime Minister Trudeau! The world hopes you will continue the humanitarian legacy of your late great father. In his name we ask that you right the horrible wrong created by the unlawful fake extradition of a father and 17 year husband to a Canadian family who was punished not for what he did but for what he knows. The man I speak about is Bruce Gorcyca who came to Canada in 2000 seeking refuge and sanctuary from American political thugs who threatened to kill him and his pregnant Canadian wife. Only days after filing a report with Amnesty International he we "detained" illegally for 10.5 in maximum security confinement by Immigration Canada "at the request of the U.S. government" even though no criminal charges were filed against him in any...

Dear George, So obligatory consent lessons made you feel like you’d been slapped in the face? Well, that’s exactly how so many women and I felt when we read your article for the Tab. Did you know that around 1 in 3 women will experience sexual assault (anything from unwanted groping in a nightclub to being raped) during their time at university? ((http://www.telegraph.co.uk/women/womens-life/11343380/Sexually-assault-1-in-3-UK-female-students-victim-on-campus.html)) Now I'm not a mathematician, but that means that there are a LOT of boys at university who don’t know when to stop. I’m not saying you’re one of them; I’m sure you really are the ‘nice guy’ who knows that no means no that you claimed to be in your article. But your attitude, and your comments, are unacceptable....

In recent days there has been talk online about why Canada's PM Stephen Harper allowed the U.S. Government (U.S. Department of Justice) to swindle $43 million from Canadian investors when he was advised and warned 4 years before the money supposedly "disappeared" by whistle blower Gorcyca. See http://2006bruce.blogspot.com. If you are not familiar with the underlying story go here for a quick summary: http://www.scam.com/showthread.php?685266-PM-Stephen-Harper-s-Hackers-Deleting-Links-About-43-Million-Cover-Up This is the mainstream media version of what happened: http://www.investorvoice.ca/PI/229.html As you can see, some minor details were left out. Gorcyca worked two years inside American Financial Group - the Frankenstein laundromat that washed millions of dollars every month on...

Rajdeep, While I'm struggling to write my SOP to apply for colleges, all I keep doing is refreshing my twitter feed where I see 'bhakts' and you engaged in a twitter battle mainly about Modi, Democracy, secularism or pseudo-secularism, liberalism. I'm almost sure , after reading this open letter( if you ever read it), you might call me a bhakt. Yesterday when I saw you debating with Anupam kher, I was quite perturbed. Simply because a lot of the things he was saying might hold a lot of weight. And it got me thinking, so I decided to write this letter, more so to clear my head, so I can move on with my life. The role of media in a democracy is very important, as I've studied in my 10th standard civics and history class (now I'm not even sure what I studied in my school was the...

Dear Mr. Harper, I write this at the request of my mother, who, along with myself represent a branch of the "old stock Canadians" to which you have been referring to during this election. To give you an idea of our family history: my mother's family literally fled the fires of religious persecution in Switzerland, due to their refusal to conform to the state church, as per their religious beliefs (for more details, look up Anabaptist history). They first fled to the Netherlands, and subsequently, around the year 1700, sailed to Pennsylvania where they became farmers. At the time, the area was ruled by the British, who also controlled what is now our beloved country of Canada. Following the American revolution one of my ancestors moved to what was than Upper Canada (now...
