Dear Governor,

As a concerned citizen of Ago Iwoye and Ogun state as a whole, I am writing this letter to remind you on what looks like a forgotten promise.

I remember vividly when you were campaigning to be the governor of Ogun state for your first term, part of the promises you made was to fix the three major bridges that led into Ago Iwoye and also the Ilesan road amongst others.

Before you came into power the former governor manage to fix only one of those bridges, the one after the permanent site of Olabisi Onabanjo University if you are coming from the Ilesan road but it is the first bridge you would see if you are coming from Ago Iwoye town. I can’t begin to count the numbers of lives that have been lost on that bridge so it was a relief when the governor fixed it but it was much more a relief when you made a promise to fix all the bridges within your first two years in office. This promise came as a relief for the people of Ago Iwoye mostly because as at then that was one of the changes the town needed and promising to fix it was one of the things that got you elected in Ago Iwoye.

After you came into power you began work on those bridges just like you promised and the people were already giving you praise even before the completion of the bridges because you started work on two of those bridges at the same time. There was also the project of the dualiazation of the Ilesan road to Ago Iwoye and all these transformations were making the people happy.

Mr Governor now you are in your second term and only one bridge is in a perfect condition, the one the former governor repaired and you came in to upgrade. After you upgrade that bridge, you began the construction of another one beside it but till now that bridge hasn’t seen the light of the day.

The middle bridge which is the second major bridge in Ago Iwoye whether you are heading towards the Ilesan road from Ago Iwoye or vice versa, is now in the worst state ever. Now I am talking about the passage (because that thing isn’t a bridge) that the former governor built right before vacating office.

All motorists riding on that bridge knew it wasn't good but they were able to manage it by making use of just one section of the bridge because it was still better than the original bridge that was there. All motorists went back to the old bridge when you began your reconstruction of that bridge as they hope for a better bridge sooner just like it was with the first one.

I went to Ago Iwoye two weeks ago and to my surprise motorists are still going through the same old original bridge but what surprise me the most was the fact that the passage that the former governor built and you were reconstructing is even more worst than how it was before. Your promise was to repair the bridge but from the current state of that bridge, sir I am afraid to say that you have made it worst because that bridge isn’t even accessible now.

As a concerned citizen I urge you to please come through on your promise and complete your project before your term expires so that the next governor wouldn’t use that as a campaign promise then come in and do the same thing you have done.

Sir, we need a new bridge on that road so that people can stop risking their lives when they pass through that old second major bridge. Every car that pass through that bridge is taking a big risk and if anything bad should happen to them, you are solemnly responsible for it.

Yours sincerely,

A Concerned Citizen
