Dear Midwest City Resident,

In my years with the City, I have been quite often surprised by the confusion about whether a neighborhood is or is not in the city limits of Midwest City. We are sending this letter to you to confirm that you do live in Midwest City.

There are several reasons that contribute to the confusion on City boundaries:
• Our post office is an Oklahoma City branch, so our zip codes are often confused with being in either Oklahoma City or Choctaw areas (You may receive mail addressed to you, but, with Oklahoma City or Choctaw as the destination city),
• Phone numbers are sometimes associated with zip codes, so Midwest City residents may be listed under Oklahoma City phone information,
• There is one dependent school district, Crutcho, and three different independent school districts represented in Midwest City: Mid-Del schools, Oklahoma City (OKC) schools and Choctaw/Nicoma Park (CNP) schools. Understandably, our families living in the OKC or CNP school districts may assume that they live within those communities, but they actually live in Midwest City.

As a resident of Midwest City, we would like to ask you to consider shopping and dining locally whenever possible. Our local businesses have consciously chosen to be a part of our community by investing in land and buildings, hiring local people, and giving back to local causes.

Our local businesses are an important component of our local economy! The sales tax revenue generated at these businesses help to fund essential city services such as fire, police, streets, code enforcement and many more departments. In addition, sales tax revenue helps to fund infrastructure and capital improvement projects. The sales tax rate for Midwest City is 8.35%. Out of that percent, we receive 3.85% and the state gets 4.5%. Our current budget depends on approximately $23 million in sales tax income.

Also on the subject of sales tax, when ordering items for home or business delivery, please check the sales tax charged. If the rate is not 8.35%, then another city is getting credit for the sale and is therefore receiving the vital sales tax our City needs (Please note that sales tax paid per item is based on where the item will be delivered). If this occurs, please help our community by completing and returning the online form by clicking here or by contacting our Finance Department at 869.8644. When we receive input from you; our staff will contact the Oklahoma Tax Commission to correct this mistake.

We appreciate your consideration and cooperation in these matters. Please let us know if we can be of further service.
