Donald Trump, I challenge you.

Mr. Trump,
First, let me say congratulations on your win. Becoming the president of the United States of America is something many dream of. Your victory, however, has been met with a very diverse mix of reactions. Some are jubilant, some angry, some heartbroken, and others, such as myself, are simply terrified. As I sit at my computer, afraid to turn on the news or even log onto Facebook to see what the world holds now, I realize I still have options. I could sit back and let it go, I could join the protests, I could argue with my peers, but none of these options seem productive enough for me. Instead, I challenge you Donald Trump. I challenge you, because I know how much you love to win, and I know how much I love this country. I challenge you to prove me wrong. I have seen the work of your supporters, the racial slurs, the hate crimes, the harassment, and I challenge you to prove to me that this is not what you stand for. I heard your "locker room talk." Show me that we, as Americans, are past harassing women. Show me an America where us women don't have to be afraid of walking down a street in the dark. You say you want to "make America great again," why don't you start by making it safe. Safety won't be achieved by kicking Muslims out of this country founded on religious freedom. Safety won't be achieved by building a wall to keep those in need of safety and freedom out of this land of the free. Safety can only be achieved through peace. Show me an America that is controlled not by fear and hate, but by acceptance and love. Prove to me that the special needs children of this country won't grow up believing they deserve to be alienated and made fun of. Show me an America in which the LGBTQ community can live their lives free from the fear of being persecuted for who they love and how they identify. I love America. This is the country my forefathers fought for and I want to see it remain free and fair. I will respect you and accept your presidency, but my challenge stands. Prove me wrong. Make America safe again.
