Dear Management,

I wanted to write you a quick letter. I am sure you haven’t thought twice about me since you fired me for really no quantifiable reason earlier this year. But I think about you all the time. I think about all the precious time I wasted working for you. I think about how you took me for granted, squashed my dreams, and killed my soul at little bit more each day for nearly a decade. I think about the time I lost with my kids because I was committed to you and your company. Time I’ll never get back. You might expect this letter to be a nasty tale of all the horrible things you did to me over the years. Nope. I actually wanted to thank you for a few things. I learned a lot from you.

Thank you for teaching me how NOT to manage and lead people. You taught me that employees deserve a real, professional management team. I never again allow myself to work for a judgmental, hypocritical, and unsupportive company. I am worth more than that.

Thank you for showing me how to destroy people’s morale and confidence. I watched you demotivate and un-inspire so many employees during my time at your organization. Yet, you had absolutely no idea you were doing it. I deserve better, and they deserve better. Open your eyes and take a look around.

Thank you for showing me what money and greed does to people. How it can turn once good people and good organizations into entitled assholes who forgot the why they started the business in the first place. Money does not make you untouchable. Yes, I will never have as much money as you or be as successful as you, but you know what? Good.

Thank you for teaching me about entitlement. I was young and naive when I started there. I always thought people would respect committed, hard workers. Wrong again. Most people, especially you, only respect people that kiss your ass. Sorry. I’m not doing that.

Thank you for showing me that rules and policies within an organization don’t mean a thing. I have always been a rule follower. I thought that was the right thing to do. You showed me that the rules are different for everyone and that some folks are untouchable. It doesn’t matter if you lie, steal, or harass others, you can get away with anything if you play your cards right. Obviously I played them wrong.

And most importantly, thank you for proving to me that hard work and loyalty really do mean nothing. I busted my ass for you for a decade and you didn’t even notice. What did I get in return? Fired.

Working for fake, arrogant assholes for so long has given me fabulous and hilarious stories to tell. I saw and heard things from you and your employees that I can never forget. You simply can’t make this shit up. In fact, the anger and resentment I feel towards you has helped develop a new passion for me…writing. Who knew? Certainly not you.

So, thank you freeing me from your hold.

Sincerely,

The bitch you let go
xoxo
